Fall Party Ideas For a Non-Halloween Party

A fall themed party may be more to your taste than a Halloween party with ghosts and goblins for several reasons: age and personalities of your guests, religious beliefs or something else. Whatever the reason, if this is the case, you can still throw an autumn event as warm weather turns to winter chills. Instead of dressing in costumes and playing spooky music, bales of straw, scarecrows, cornstalks, mums, sunflowers, pumpkins, gourds, fruit filled cornucopias and fall leaves are just a few things that can be used to decorate for your party. We will share some fall party ideas to help you to develop your own fall themed party.

You may prefer an inside event and serve cut-out sugar cookies in shapes of leaves with frosting colors of fall foliage and coffee to your guests. Use the strings of small lights that you use during the winter holiday season to create a warm and inviting feel to your home. An outdoor fall celebration may include a late afternoon hayride followed by s'mores and hot dogs roasted over a bon fire. Serve apple cider or beer which has been especially brewed for fall. The event can be located anywhere, and the menu can be simple snacks and appetizers or a full meal. Guests are more than happy to bring a favorite dish to show off their cooking talents. If you are hosting the party for close friends and family, do not hesitate to ask them to bring a casserole or desert.

If you are using paper products, mix and match solid fall colors such as orange, yellow, black, purple or red instead of festive Halloween pumpkin napkins, cups and plates. The solid colors will be more age appropriate for adults and can save you some money. Use items you already have such as those linen napkins that are rarely used. Save some trees and some cash at the same time.

Would a scarecrow building contest be fun for your guests? Maybe a scavenger hunt? The key is to schedule activities based on your guests to ensure they enjoy themselves at your party. Playing cards and board games are always popular. Place board games in different areas of the home and guests may be inclined to start a friendly competition with a small group or you may find the easel and Pictionary game are the focus of every guest for a portion of the evening.

Hollow out pumpkins and use them as vases with an assortment of fall flowers inside them for an outside decoration. When you are finished with them, put them in your compost pile. Press leaves between two sheets of waxed paper and seal with the heat of an iron and use as them as coasters or place mats.

We hope these fall party ideas help you get started with planning your own non-Halloween party this year. Whether you are a seasoned party planner or you have never hosted a party, these suggestions should help create a memorable event for your guests.
