Plan the Ultimate Halloween Party

With Halloween only a month away it is crunch time in trying to organize the perfect bash for all of your friends. There are so many options for planning a truly spooky affair, and the earlier you start the planning, the better deals you'll score on costumes and decorations.

Firstly, send out party invitations letting your friends know that you're having an awesome shindig to celebrate one the creepiest nights of the year. Everyone loves Halloween so they'll surely be on board with helping to make your party one of the best. You can find plenty of Halloween stationary and seasonal cards to send out as your invitations so that once your guests open the envelope they'll automatically know what kind of fiesta it will be.

You should also spend some time figuring out what your costume will be. The host should have one of the best costumes of the evening, so set aside some time and think about how over-the-top you can be this year. There are so many different looks to choose from, ranging from rock star to baseball player to Frankenstein, but you can get creative and think up your very own costume and then just purchase accessories to make it your own.

Next, one should look into getting the very best decorations for their venue. Try going for a haunted house theme and purchase plenty of spooky items like skulls and bones to place around the house. Also, get jack-o-lanters with creepy faces carved into them and make sure they are illuminated with candles. You can also use the fake spiderwebs to make it seem like your home has been vacant for many years and that spiders have been crawling all over the place. Set up life size cardboard cutouts of classic movie monsters like Dracula and the Wolfman. And, if your budget allows, try setting interactive displays with witches and goblins.

Stock up on plenty of candy to satisfy the needs of the trick or treaters who'll stop by, plus your guests. Set out paper goods like paper plates, napkins, cups and plastic tableware for your guests for when they decide to head over to the boo-ffet. Serve up delectable treats like caramel apples and red velvet cupcakes to go along with your Halloween theme.

Remember, a month may seem like a long time but it isn't when you have so many other things going on in your life. Set aside some time to think about how scary you want make your shindig. Ask your friends for ideas and help in planning the party as it can get a bit overwhelming. There are plenty of resources for finding the perfect Halloween decorations and party favors. If you have the time, create a costume contest as well and award your guests who have gone over-the top with their Halloween getup.

Three Unique Ideas For Halloween Party

Halloween party decorations are extremely important, they spark more or less the same amount of rivalry that Christmas decorations do; needless to say people will spend just about any amount of time and money it takes to make their house look like it could rival that of the Adams' family. Here are three really easy to do Halloween decoration ideas.

You've heard of a front yard full of tombstones; get white sheets and light sticks. Put them under the sheet along with a helium filled balloon. Place this prop next to each tombstone or between trees to make it look like you have a front yard full of ghosts. Place jack o' lanterns at random spots to complete the effect of a haunted cemetery and make your Halloween arrangements look like you've gone the whole nine yards.

Take different items of clothing and stuff them with newspaper. Assemble people made of the stuffed clothes in you windows and add a light. The lights should turn on and off randomly. Give the people pumpkin heads, use hats or old stuffed toys to create the head shape. It will give the effect of different people standing at the windows.

Remember how things like fluttering sheets or branches scare the hell out of you after you've seen a horror flick, Halloween is the best time to use tree branches and white sheets to decorate the house. Paint faces on sheets and use branches to give it limbs.

Put out great food for your guest, bat and pumpkin cookies are good but Halloween fruit bouquets arranged in pumpkin containers with ghosts and black cats made out of pineapple slices are even better!

Unique fruit and delicious Halloween arrangements, make your Halloween party special. Halloween fruit baskets are incredible Halloween table centerpieces.

How to Decorate Your Home For Halloween

Halloween is one of the most thrilling holidays of the year for many children as well as fun-loving adults. One of the most ultimate joys for young and old is decorating your home for Halloween. You can do it easily, by allowing your imagination lead the way and a good deal can be created within a tight budget, if needed. Pay close attention on how to decorate for the ultimate Halloween.

When you have children, you can use all those class Halloween projects. You can simply hang them about or even make a Halloween tree, similar to a Christmas or Easter tree. You can use construction paper for making jack-o-lanterns, bats, cats, witches, spiders and other ghoulish decorations to place around the house. Once they have created their paper decorations, use tape and sting to attach them for hanging.

Spooky sounds are wonderful for setting the mood. You might want to purchase a Halloween CD or make your own, using a tape recorder.

Lighting is essential for setting a Halloween atmosphere. You can use candles and jack-o-lanterns, however, do be sure to practice fire safety. You can use some of those plastic Christmas candles, either using the orange bulbs, or other colored lights, you can always cover the bottom with construction paper, aluminum foil or paint them. Black lights strategically placed adds an eerie feeling.

Making a Halloween dummy is simple and fun, by using some old clothes, boots a hat and some stuffing. Pose the dummy inside or out for the trick or treating children to see, they love taking a close up peek at such Halloween decorations. You might also consider some spider webs and spiders to hang out at your home as well during Halloween.

When decorating your yard for Halloween, you might want to consider allowing the grass to grow which will add to the appearance of the house being abandoned, then gather up some old looking wooden planks write some scary names upon them and then place them around the yard as grave markers. While preparing the graves, you might like to place a bit of dirt there as well to give it more of an appearance of being a grave, some people may consider using fertilizer to do this, however, fertilizer will actually burn the grass beneath it when there it is more than the grass actually needs.

Another interesting idea, if you have enough yard space, is to plant a corn maze, when the time is right, and then allow the corn to stand in place during Halloween, when the corn should already have begun to dry out, which provides a very scary appearance, not to mention that the rustling of the dried cornstalks when the wind blows adds that extra creepy sounds while traveling through a corn maze. If you decide to plant a corn maze to use during Halloween, you might consider also planting some well placed costumed individuals to hide within the maze, to scare some of the people traveling through the maze. However, you may want to try to be too scary when entertaining children and older people, so as not to upset anyone to badly.

Another great idea for decorating your yard for a Halloween party is to set up a bonfire and perhaps an effigy or two. Imagine tossing Freddie Kruger into the fire, or perhaps Jason or Michael. It's all in fun and it is the season! Have a blast getting ready for your Ultimate Halloween.

5 Cool Halloween Party Games For Kids

Every Halloween party needs Halloween party games. A couple games are usually enough to keep your guests entertained. If you overdo it and have too many games planned you may actually harm the flow of your party.

Games should be age appropriate. You should consider the group you are working with. If you are having a child's party your Halloween party games are going to be fairly short so you will need a few more to keep the attention of your young guests.

1. Some fun games for children's parties can include a hay maze to get the kids lost in. A few treats along the way to be found like prizes are always a big hit. Your maze can be made with bales of hay or you can have a cornfield maze. Whatever way you plan the maze it is usually a hit with kids.

2. Scavenger hunting is another great Halloween party game. Kids love these, and so do adults. You can start off with one clue and have your group seek the next clue or you can give them multiple clues at once and really blow their minds.

3. Mummies are fun at Halloween parties. A fun Halloween party game can include making a mummy with toilet paper or gauze. You can have a contest to see which team can make their member into a mummy faster.

4. Passing the pumpkin under your chin is another fun game. You do not want to use full size pumpkins. In fact, you may want to use an apple instead of a pumpkin. Get your group in a line and everyone clasps their hands behind their own back. The fruit is passed under the chin of the members of the group in a line and hands cannot touch the fruit. The first team to get their pumpkin to the end of the line wins. Of course, if you drop the pumpkin you have to start over.

5. Build a scarecrow, pin the art on the witch, guess the ghost, and bobbing for apples are al fun games to keep your group entertained. Traditional Halloween party games can include pumpkin carving. You can have a contest. This is always a good way to get creative with your party. You can give prizes for many different categories.

Whatever party ideas you have let your imagination go wild and modify the game to fit your group. Halloween is a day to be creative and let your hair down. Enjoy it while you can.

You can create this transformation by using various Halloween themed decorations and increase the reality with adding special effects like the addition of scary sounds and fog machines! You can make your rooftops creepy with the use of spider webs; you can make your jack-o'-lanterns grimacing and scary, and you can even use decorations which represent ghosts, ghouls, witches, goblins, etc.

It is not always the amount of decorations, but how you use them that create a believable 'haunted house' theme and the feel of horror and dread for would-be trick-or-treaters! With some themed props and decorations you can do even a minimal amount of work to give a terrifying look to your house!

Just to give you an idea, Halloween decorations are not the only ways you can add a spook-rific haunted theme to your house and Halloween party. To add even more to the horror, serve some really frightening foods to your guests that will leave them spellbound. To add to the effect try to use a creepy and scary looking gate as the entrance and enhance with some scary nightmare sound effects and fog machines. If you don't have a garden or lawn to deck out, there is no need to be disappointed; you can use other Halloween props such as orange-colored Halloween lights and Halloween signs to create an equally eerie atmosphere!

2. Indoor decorations: You should not only scare your visitors outside your home, but continue your frightful theme inside as well! In fact, your house should be decorated in a way that your guests become frightened the moment they instead your dreadfully haunted house.

You don't need to spend a lot of money or time on this. Use minimal Halloween decorations such as ghosts, goblins, ghouls, etc. and decorate your house with them in a way that they all seem to be floating around! You can compliment it by creating dark corridors with the help of black or orange lights, some creepy Halloween special effects, and top it off with some frightful, yet fun Halloween foods to make your Halloween party complete.

Holiday Trends and Ideas - Halloween and Thanksgiving

The holiday season is upon us! If you have any doubts about this, just take a look in any store you go into or any store window you go past. Witches, ghosts, jack o'lanterns, black cats and candy corn adorn every corner.

Halloween is here and it's traditional. Its colors have always been black and orange. And white is usually in the mix to add a ghostly element. In more modern times, purple is also added as an accent, along with copper metallic, to give your Halloween décor a more upscale and contemporary look.

If there is one "trend" it is all things "vintage". Reproductions of vintage Halloween post cards, and reproductions of jack o'lantern figures, witches and ghosts from the 1930's and 1940's help baby boomers return to the holidays of their childhoods. In this way, we can also celebrate the holidays of our parents, and even our grandparents. After all, Halloween has become a huge family social occasion, with parties, trick-or-treating and Halloween decorating an important part of it all.

To make your Halloween even more "spooky", try tying different lengths of purple, black and orange ribbons to the stems of apples. These make great party decorations as is, or can be used for "apple bobbing".

You can take the same idea, and hang different lengths and widths of white satin and white sheer ribbon from doorway openings, and in front of windows, to create a "floating ghost" feeling. If you make a few of the ribbon streamers long enough to touch the top of your head, it will even enhance the "ghostlike" feeling!

Make a great Halloween party centerpiece, by combining multi-loop ribbon bows in copper and black lame, and place tall black tapered candles in the center, or even black and orange pillar candles. Then sprinkle candy corn around everything. Your guests can pick and munch on these! (Just make sure to put a large platter under the whole centerpiece, so you can move it easily.

It's pretty easy to move from Halloween forward into Harvest season, and then Thanksgiving. If you have carved faces into your pumpkins, simply turn them around, so that the uncarved side faces out, and add Indian corn, gourds, turkey feathers and berries, such as bittersweet to create a lush, "harvest" look.

This concept works great as outdoor décor, especially when accompanied by a large scarecrow. There are many fantastic ones to be found at farmers' markets, and gift stores, and maybe even in your local supermarket. Of course, all of this is made even more dramatic and eye-catching by adding complementary ribbons and bows in orange, rust, chocolate, moss green, antique gold and yellow. Purple is still a great accent color with these warm tones, and you can find mum plants in lovely shades of lavender and purple to go along with this.

The most important thing is to have fun! It's not a serious thing. Make sure the kids as well as moms, dads, grandmas and grandpas participate for a true family effort!

Harvest is closely followed by Thanksgiving. The fundamentals are already in place. Just add turkeys, cranberries, pilgrims and again, the "vintage" Thanksgiving trend items, like a banner reproduced from an old Thanksgiving postcard, or an antique cornucopia.

For Thanksgiving, you definitely want to embellish your front door, to give a warm welcome to your guests and neighbors. A dried wreath, made of leaves, berries, mini-gourds and "pods", and embellished with a large multi-looped bow of seasonally colored ribbon is just the right touch.

Honestly, there's no wrong way to do your holiday decorating. Don't be intimidated! Let your imagination guide you, relax, and have fun! We don't want your holidays to zip by too quickly, so we'll tell you about Christmas trends and decorating ideas real soon!

Easy Halloween Crafts With Your Scrapbook Supplies

Couldn't resist the cute Cosmo Cricket Matilda Halloween scrapbook collection? Got a ton of orange and black cardstock from years past? Wondering if your Halloween patterned paper is multiplying while your back is turned? Then I've got the answer for you. Here are four fun and easy Halloween craft ideas you can create with your scrapbook supplies:

1. "Tricks or Treats" Sign. One of the most popular Halloween craft posts on my blog was the cute "Tricks or Treats" sign created from a square of corrugated cardstock, Halloween letter stickers and embellishments, black paint, and some cute ribbon. Here's how: Tear one flap off a moving-sized cardboard box. Rip some of the covering so the corrugation shows. Paint the edges with a bit of black paint, making sure not to be too neat! Add the letter stickers to spell "Tricks or Treats" and then embellish with your favorite stickers, die-cuts, and rub-ons. Punch two holes at the top to thread the ribbon through, and then tie a knot or bow and hang from your front door to greet the little hobgoblins that come to visit.

2. Trick-or-Treat Bags. Take a stack of brown paper bags, pull out your Halloween stamps, stickers, and ribbon, and go to work! Personalize bags with alphabet stickers or stamps, die-cut jack-o'-lantern shapes, or just add a bit of ribbon to create a cute treat holder for your favorite Halloween visitors, or for a class party favor. And speaking of class parties, this craft makes a great craft for older and younger students alike.

3. Halloween Banner. Cut rectangle or triangle shapes from Halloween patterned paper, pink the edges with pinking shears, and attach to a length of ribbon long enough to reach across your mantel. Die-cut large letters to spell "Spooky" or "Happy Halloween," and then attach a letter to each patterned paper panel. Next, embellish your banner with stickers or glitter, and you've got a fun decor item to use year after year.

4. Halloween Frames. Just last night I spent a whopping five minutes to put together what may be the highlight of our Halloween decor! Take a black frame, remove the back and take out the matting and glass. Cut black-and-white patterned paper to fit, insert into the frame, and replace the backing, leaving the glass out. Then take a glue gun and attach a Halloween novelty item like a large plastic tarantula or skull to the patterned paper.

Decorate for Halloween on Vacation? A Ghostly Idea!

A fun time for all of the family, Halloween doesn't have to be foregone if going on vacation during the end of October. No matter where you vacation, there are some easy decorating tips and Halloween activities for all to participate in that will have you in the Halloween spirit any time! And do not think that you need kids to have fun; these are just as fun for adults too!

The first decorating item that is available anywhere and will not cost a dime are leaves. The fall season brings out the various, reds, oranges, and yellows, which are the perfect colors to scatter around the hotel room, rental house, resort condo, etc... They make for great centerpieces with minimal work. Placing candy around is another way to add some splashes of color and Halloween festiveness while on vacation. Not to mention they are also tasty treats for the passerby's!

Carving Jack-o-Lantern's is also a fun activity for everyone to get as creative as they want! Luckily, farmer's markets and pumpkin patches are plentiful this time of year so load the car and head over to have everyone pick their own! Churches tend to put on their own pumpkin patches as fundraisers so look out for them as well!

The easiest way for the young ones to get in on the carving action is for them to plan out a sketch on a piece of paper, trace it onto the pumpkin and then have an adult carve it or supervise them. Don't forget to cut a medium-sized hole around the top stem to protect the candles or lights placed within. A fun snack idea, save the pumpkin seeds and rinse them off. Once dry, lightly salt and spray with oil if desired, and bake them for about 15 minutes at 350 degrees until golden brown and crispy. Then enjoy!

If in an especially creative mood, one-gallon milk cartons can serve as an eccentric version of jack-o-lanterns. Simply take a permanent marker and draw a face or design on the front of the jug, place low-voltage Christmas lights within, and cut a hole in the back of the jug to plug the lights into an outlet. Lights will be extremely easy to find since Christmas decorations are widely available already in October.

Halloween stores and retail party stores will be in abundance no matter where you are vacationing, so stop by one to find all kinds of scary decorations and festive supplies. Even more economical, drug stores, dollar stores, and grocery stores all carry holiday supplies on the cheaper side making them a great place to shop for spooktacular items!

Normal supplies such as crepe paper ribbons can make even the blandest door look cheerful! Orange and black disposable party trays are also easy and cheap tricks to set the mood.

Creating a ghost can be very simple as well! All it takes is a light colored sheet, eyes made from tape and paper, and a small, round, lightweight object to serve as the head (balloon or beach balls would work). Additionally, string or fishing wire tied around the neck of the ghost will allow for it to be hung from almost anywhere!

Once done with all your Halloween decorations, a fun activity for the family to work on together that can also be a life-saver during bad weather is a jigsaw puzzle. Bring along a Halloween-themed puzzle for a lot of fun and bonding time!

With these Halloween ideas in mind, there is no way that you or your family will miss out on the spooky fun!

Easy, Last-Minute Halloween Party Decoration Ideas

Creepy Cookies

Cookies as Halloween decorations? Why yes! Most grocery stores sell the batter tubes with Halloween-themed shapes in the centre. These are time-efficient and super easy to bake, so even hosts like me (who are not allowed in the kitchen because of previous fire-related incidents) would be hard-pressed to screw them up. Bake LOTS of these cookies. Place the finished cookies around your home on plates, in baskets or around pumpkin bases as a yummy Halloween décor accent! The next day, wrap the un-eaten cookies in cellophane and give them away at work or to those vendors you see that day (the guy at Starbucks who gets your chai latte just right every time!). While those cookies are baking...

Put out some pumpkins

Pumpkins are a great way to decorate, and are readily available at this time of year. Pick up full-sized pumpkins for your party area or the front steps of your house. Hollow out mini pumpkins for easy taper candle holders. Gut a large pumpkin and place a bowl inside for a festive punch holder. Draw faces on your large pumpkins for a comedic yet spooky effect.

Have a few extra minutes? Hollow out a large pumpkin, but don't chuck the innards. Carve a scowling face with a large, wide-open mouth. Grab those gooey insides and stream out of the mouth. Your pumpkin looks like he has eaten bad sushi, and is a hilarious conversation piece. Estimated time: Ten minutes.

Spike your punch - with food colouring

Use food colouring to turn your bunch black, blood-red, oozy green or any other combination you can create! Float Halloween-shaped ice cubes in the beverage to punch up your punch! Voila! A multi-functional decoration your guests will drink up!

Stage a gory accident

This week, you're not to feel bad about not visiting the recycling depot! Take a pair of pants (denim jeans work the best) and stuff them with plastic bags (or, if you're a dutiful recycler, clothes from your dirty laundry basket). Place the waistband area under a heavy piece of furniture (a couch, trunk or entertainment unit). Place shoes at the end and cover a bit of the shoe with the bottom leg of the pants. You now have a horrific accident that will give your guests a giggle. Ketchup blood is optional. You can take the plastic bags to the recycling depot tomorrow.

Light it up

Purchase coloured light bulbs for an eerie ambiance. Cut bats, ghosts and/or witches out of black construction paper and stick on the inside of lamp shades for creepy decorations that cast spooky shadows!

Ghosts that just hang around

Take a kitchen refuse bag and cut into squares, varying in size. In the middle of each square, place a wad of paper towel or a plastic bag (scrunched up tight). Pull the corners together and tie with an elastic band, ribbon or string. Use a Sharpie to add facial expressions. Instant ghost! Hang on doorknobs, from the ceiling (using string and a thumb tac), stairwell railings, etc.

These tips will ensure a quick and easy decoration fix. And the best part: minimal clean up the next day! Happy Halloween!

Halloween Party Props - 3 Ideas

Halloween party props are the most important accessories for Halloween decor. Probably no one can imagine a Halloween party without the usual monsters, skeletons and Jack - o- lantern pumpkin heads. All of these have entered Halloween folklore and if you want some of the best such Halloween props for your October 31 party, there are a few online stores that can help you. These websites have the advantage of offering a range of products on the same theme, so you can have a unitary concept behind your party.

One of the best products that can be found online is the tombstone with a skull and the "RIP" inscription engraved on it. The material used for production is polystyrene foam which makes it an affordable item and light, so shipping is cheap too and it is easy to install. Its drawback is that the polystyrene foam is very fragile, so you need to be careful when handling. It is 71 cm tall and its color is usually black.

If you want to take the cemetery scene a bit further, besides the tombstone you can also purchase a scene setter room roll. As the name may suggest, it is a roll of paper that you use to cover your walls. The one for the graveyard theme is 50 ft long (15.2 meters) 1.2 meters wide. It is decorated with grey stone brickwork and a dark graveyard behind iron curtails. It is made from plastic. You will of course want to measure your room and decide how much you need, as well as if you wish to cover part or all of your room.

And of course, what would Halloween be without the expected skulls or skeletons? For this item of your Halloween party props you can opt for a full size one. It can be put in any scene set, it does not take too much room and it looks pretty cool. Besides Halloween, it is a great gift for any horror movie fan. It is a realistic, high definition cardboard picture, self supporting, easy to transport thanks to the folding mechanism and its height is 188 cm.

Halloween is one of the most beloved holidays for children and grownups alike. It is one of the most important secular holidays in the world, and some people spend a lot of effort planning during the year to ensure they create a truly supernatural themed Halloween event.

Halloween is one of the widely celebrated holidays all over the world. Attending Halloween parties, visiting haunted mansions, going on ghost tours and similar activities are done on the night of October 31st. Children also love to go around the neighborhood for the annual trick or treat.

Halloween is said to have started in Ireland but is also celebrated in the United States, Australia and other countries. Also, in Celtic Ireland in the 5th Century BC they celebrate a holiday called "Samhain" which they consider the Celtic New Year.

Halloween is also believed to have originated in the Catholic Church in preparation for All Saints Day which falls on November 1. All Saints is also called "All Hollows Day" in relation to Halloween since Halloween is celebrated on the eve of November 1. In other words, both Celtics and Catholics look up Halloween as an important celebration of their beliefs.

In Halloween parties, friends, relatives, co-workers and neighbors gather together dressed up on their favorite Halloween character. Halloween characters loved by many include Mr Hallowenster, Joker, Annie Brackett, Batman, Scarecrow, Mr Death and many others. Some people would also wear vampire costumes or dress up as zombies, witches and werewolves. Creative guys even wear something more unique like wearing a costume with bats or coffins attached.

If you are hosting the Halloween party, you should make sure to prepare Halloween decors that would make your place look creepy, haunted and enthralling. You can get different Halloween decoration ideas online or ask friends for unique ideas. Some decors you can use are bats, pooping eyes, fake webs, and Jack-o-Lantern. You can also use crepe paper to add color to the scene or even use the black on most areas to make the place more eerie.

Halloween is not focused on instilling fear on people but instead it's one way to celebrate and commemorate the death of our loved ones but in a happy way based on our beliefs. Let's continue celebrating Halloween every year with family and friends and reminisce the good times we had with our beloved ones who already passed away.

Tips to Help You Have a Happy Halloween

"Trick or treat!" You hear the kids screaming from the porch. You swing open the door to see a Captain America, a Chewbacca, a Dora the Explorer and a lady bug. The kids costumes are all so cute and the Halloween masks are so creepy this year, but something is missing.

It may feel as though you've lost the spirit of Halloween and that deep down, you're just not so excited about this day anymore. Often times, adults forget to do something for themselves and instead look toward Thanksgiving for gratification. Here are some sure-fire ideas that'll have you shouting "happy Halloween" in no time.

It's a lot of work, but if you want to have a really great Halloween costume party, then plan months in advance! Perhaps you'll choose a theme to get started, such as a masquerade, Renaissance vampires, pirates, monsters, 1920s gangsters or any other decorating and costume theme. If it's your first time, then you might want to host a simple dinner of ghoulish delights, followed by a movie.

If you're looking for something outrageous, then just throw some Halloween drinking games or board games into the mix and watch the party explode with laughter. Murder mystery parties come in a box that provide suggestions for food, decorations and costume accessories, as well as providing invitations, character booklets, scripts and a CD/DVD with the compelling conclusion for your "whodunnit" mystery. Check out the Bepuzzled brand for the best selection of murder mystery kits.

To make this a particularly happy Halloween, why not plan a special family vacation to see a special Halloween attraction? At Universal Studios and Disney each October, there are a number of spectacular displays. Universal's "Fangoria Weekends of Horror" will give you intense haunted house displays galore and it was rated one of the best theme park destinations for Halloween, along with Knotts Berry Farm and Tampa Busch Gardens.

Greenwich Village in New York City has an annual Halloween parade and street festival beginning at 7pm Halloween night. On Santa Monica Boulevard, West Hollywood, you'll see an impressive annual Halloween Carnival extravaganza. Salem and Philadelphia have special historical haunted ghost tours if you dare. At "Hauntworld" you can find a list of some of the best Halloween attractions around America. If you'd rather stay local, then check for haunted hayrides, haunted houses, corn mazes or walks for ghost hunters in your area.

Perhaps your happy Halloween is diminished by fear after all. You're worried about the kids on their trick or treat mission in the dark. You worry that you'll run out of cupcakes at the party. You fear vandals will trash your house with eggs and toilet paper. Take a deep breath and realize that Halloween is statistically no more dangerous than any other night. Be sure your kids carry flashlights, stick together, wear reflective tape and cross together at crosswalks.

Share with them the very real traffic concern and let them know they'll have to take the adults with them if they can't follow your rules. When planning a party, understand that not everything will be perfect and you can't guarantee that everyone will partake in the Halloween fun. Keep realistic expectations and relax with some witches brew!

Decorating For Halloween - Simple Ideas For Creating the Atmosphere

Many people consider Halloween their favorite holiday. Who can blame them? This is the one time of year that we can tap into our "dark sides" and do it all in good fun! Decorating for Halloween has endless possibilities. Just when you think you have seen it all, you stumble on something completely new. There are some terrific decorations in the market this time of year but many of the best decorations are homemade.

Outside Decorating Ideas

Depending on your view of the Halloween holiday, your yard can be a graveyard with multiple zombies set up or a picture perfect example of autumn, with colored leaves, friendly scarecrows and a few Jack O' Lanterns.

Tombstones can be made of thick foam that has been spray painted in grey or even made to look like marble. With a set of stencils and permanent markers, you can write up spooky epitaphs. To make zombies, purchase old clothing or go through your storage space. Sew or pin the shirt and pants together. Rub them around in the dirt to get them properly disgusting. Stuff with leaves, upholstery filling, newspapers or any other materials that can be manipulated. Make a head out of cloth and stuffing and use costume wigs for hair. Get creative with the red paint. You can use stakes, poles, chairs and other objects to pose your zombies.

A less morbid approach to outside Halloween decorations is to create a friendly atmosphere with smiling jack o' lanterns and colorful leaves spread all around. A jovial looking scarecrow on a post adds a bit of charm.

Inside Decorating Ideas

Are you planning a Halloween party? Homemade decorations can cut down on the costs for the festivities. If you are anxious to spook your guests, turn your home into a monument of old and undead. Think vampires, bats, spider webs, spiders, ghosts and ghouls. You can even create your own sound recording to make background noises that will send shivers up the spines of everyone who dares to enter your house of horror.

Whether you are having a formal sit-down dinner or plan to serve up food buffet style, a great centerpiece is a necessity. Think squash, pumpkins, dried flowers and candles or set up your own "ghoulish centerpiece" containing a standing menu that renames your foods to make guests think twice about what it is they are eating... all in good fun, of course.

In all of your Halloween decorating, make sure to keep safety in mind. Set candles in glass containers and make sure they are not near flammable materials such as costumes, drapes and napkins.

Let your imagination run wild and your Halloween décor theme will not only be fun to create, it will be a big hit with party guests and trick-or-treaters alike.

Fun Corporate Party Ideas - Halloween

Halloween is not only for kids anymore; adults are enjoying it just as much as children nowadays. Studies show that corporate Halloween parties have jumped from 50 percent to 100 percent in the last five years.

Halloween parties do well because unlike Christmas, it is not celebrated for an entire month which can be stressful and on top of that you have to worry about purchasing gifts for your colleagues in addition to your family. Halloween parties also do well because it is an escape for employees to be whom or whatever they want to be for the night.

If you want to make your corporate Halloween party exciting, select a theme. By selecting a theme this will give everyone an idea on what to wear. For example, you can have 70s or 80s party and have employees dress up as their favorite famous person during that era. You can also have employees dress up as their favorite fairy tale character, cartoon character, or favorite celebrity.

First, try choosing a convenient location and try to veer away from the office. Make sure to include many games, costume contests and prizes such as corporate gift baskets. When it comes to a location search for a space in which you are free to decorate and let your creative side out. Don't be afraid to ask your colleagues or employees for left over Halloween decorations to add to your corporate Halloween party.

Once you choose your location, decide on the menu for the night. Some ideas to save money include having a potluck. During work hours, pass around a signup sheet in which your employees will write down what they will be bringing to the party. Encourage employees to bring more items offer an up a Halloween pastry contest, a chili contest or a soup contest. This will add more excitement to the party and encourage your employees to be creative. Decide if you are going to have alcoholic beverages and if so, decide if it will be an open bar. Also, let you guests know if they are allowed to bring guests and if so notify each employee on their guest limit.

Decide if you are going to have a disc jockey or request that employees bring their iPods with their favorite tunes. If so, request that a special playlist is made. Decide on what kind of gamesthat will be played at the party. Consider everything from poker, darts and musical chairs. Surprisingly your employees may enjoy belting out some tunes, so it is best to consider a healthy karaoke session. Since imporv comedy seems to be a hit these days, you should consider gathering your employees for an improve session with different topics to present a mini comedy on, it is kind of like "Whose Line is it Anyway". It is a great way for old and new employees to bond and see how well they work together under pressure.

Consider an arts and crafts session for your employees as well, you don't necessarily have to hire a professional, simply ask around and see which of your employees is willing to share their many talents. For instance you can have a pumpkin carving lesson, a drawing lesson, a painting lesson, or maybe even a dance lesson.

It would also be fun to have a fashion show in which every employee can show off their costume. Have employees vote on best dressed and award the winner with a prize. After a night of excitement and hard work is complete, don't forget to say thank you with a unique corporate gift.

Remember, Halloween isn't just for children anymore. Adults can have just as much fun!

10 Tips For Decorating Your Office For Halloween

It is almost that time of the year, Halloween, when it is socially acceptable play dress up and eat copious amounts of sweets without being judged. Personally, one of my favorite days of the year. You probably already have your costume laid out, your Halloween plans made, your Halloween decorations in place at your home, but what about decorating your office? If you want to take Halloween to a new level this year and get in the festive spirit, consider taking some time to decorate your office for Halloween without pushing the envelope too far.

Spider Webs: These are quite possibly the oldest Halloween prop around, but they can instantly turn your office into a spooky hit. They are also relatively easy to put up and take down. Around Halloween season you can find spider webs at virtually any store at a low cost. Hang them along the walls, across desks, over the door, or even on your office chair. Add fake plastic spiders or spider rings you can wear in the webs to spice it up a little more!
Costumes: If Halloween falls on a work day, have some fun and wear your costume to the office, if permitted to do so. As long as it is work appropriate, have your employees and yourself dress up to get in the Halloween spirit and make work pass by a little faster. Costume contests for the best costume at work are also a great idea to encourage others to dress up.
Pumpkins: If you have some extra time on your hands, carve a pumpkin for work! Extra points for pumpkins that include a company name or logo on it. If you do not want to spend a lot of money or time carving a pumpkin for work, there are also plenty of fake pumpkins that are already carved and will not break your budget. Place them on desks or counters and they will give everyone something to look at to brighten up their day.
Pot of Candy: If you use the excuse that you are too old to trick or treat or want to get your candy fix early, consider investing in a pot of candy. Buy a plastic black bowl that you can find at any local store and fill it up with your favorite candies such as Twix, Snickers, and Butterfingers. Then set it out on your desk or anywhere easily accessible to allow others working in the office to help themselves.
Black and Orange Streamers: Streamers are one of the easiest and cheapest Halloween decorations to put up. Just use some masking tape and intertwine the black and orange streamers and you are good to go. Hang them on your walls, across your desk, or anywhere in your office that is looking a little bare.
Balloons: Everyone loves balloons, and during this time of the year many party supply stores offer packs of black and orange balloons. Get black and orange string to tie the balloons and set them free in places where they will be easy to take down later. Make sure not to set them free in places that you can not reach or you will have to wait for them to deflate on their own. Try not to go overboard on the balloons and stick to 10 or less.
Inflatables: Pick up some pumpkin, witch, and ghost inflatables and set them around the office. You can even have them sitting in your office chair while you are out to lunch or sitting on your desk to give you some entertainment throughout the day. You can even put them on your company lawn to show you are really in the spirit of Halloween.
Black Lights: If you are really in the Halloween mood and looking to go all out consider investing in some black lights. Put them in hallways or places where you do not need good light or reading light. They will really give your office a spooky vibe and a haunted house feel if you are looking to go above and beyond in your decorating plan.
Banner: Hang up a Halloween Banner in the office some place where everyone can see it. Try using a wall or outside a door to really showcase your spirit. Many party stores have these with many different designs, so pick one that best suits your office. If you work with kids, try to pick one that is not too scary and more kid friendly.
Decorate the door: Purchase a large vinyl or plastic Halloween table cloth and cover your door with it. You can also buy a large roll of black felt from a fabric store and cover the door that way. Get extra creative and cut out pumpkins or letters that spell out Happy Halloween and adhere them to the felt. You can also hang happy Halloween signs or plastic bats from the door knob.

Have some fun in your workplace this year while preparing for the spookiest holiday of the year.

Holiday Party Planning - How to Throw a Great Halloween Party

You're probably wondering where you can get great Halloween party ideas that are spooky and radically distinctive, right? You may have attended a lot of Halloween parties yourself, but realized that they just have been so dull and redundant. So, what would be your edge if you are to conduct your own party? You have to start collecting unique holiday party planning ideas and utilize them.

As usual, you need to have your guests wear the right kind of costumes. You have to let your guests understand that they should go with the main idea of a Halloween party, therefore they should look really scary.

Aside from the costumes, you also have to choose the right decorations for the party. You can choose to turn your garage into a very cool and exciting venue for the party. You need not put a lot of effort in cleaning it because after all, it's a Halloween party. Just consider adding some decorations instead. You may consider hanging a disco ball at the center of your garage and have it move freely. You can utilize the usual decorations such as webs, vinyl bats, broomsticks, pumpkins and other scary stuff.

Now, since it's going to be a party, one of the best ideas you can use is turning your garage into a dance floor. To be able to do this, you need to have some light effects and a DJ to work on the music. Just select the appropriate songs for the event. You can play the scary music after every dance music.

The next thing to consider is the food that you will be serving your guests. As a great holiday party planning idea, it would be easier for you if you're going to make your own food. For instance, you can add some designs of spooky characters to your finger foods. You may serve bat-shaped and pumpkin-shaped cookies to your guests. You can create your own designs, and if you're good in baking stuff, then this wouldn't be a problem for you, and this will also be very economical on your part. You just need to make sure that you and your guests are having a great time celebrating the party!

Cheap Halloween Props - Your Kids Can Make Good, Scary Fun!

Halloween is so much more fun for trick or treaters when your house looks enticingly scary as the kids approach. These days, even one pumpkin can run you a few bucks, so if you're like me, you're looking for a few ideas for cheap Halloween props that are still scary enough to give the kids a thrill. Here are just a few ideas for creepy, but cheap Halloween props the kids can make and/or decorate themselves. You save money and they have fun.

Poster board and cardboard boxes are on my short list of cheap Halloween decorating materials. A large cardboard box can be turned into a haunted house in an afternoon. Hung from a window, your haunted house will lend a creepy feeling and inspire a little apprehension for the candy seekers. Depending on the kids ages, you may need to help cut out some 'windows' with a utility knife. After that's done, let the kids loose. All you need in the way of supplies is a tube of gray acrylic paint, yellow or orange cellophane, a pack of markers in day-glow colors, a package of 'spiderwebs' and some glitter. Cut your cardboard box to a size that fits in a front window. After the kids have painted the house, allow about 15 minutes for drying (acrylic paint dries quickly). Turn the cardboard (or poster board) over and then they can tape the cellophane to the back of the windows. Now they can use their markers to draw in the creepy details. Kids generally know what scares kids, so let them have free rein. Apply spiderwebs! When the haunted house is finished, hang it on the inside of the designated window. The cellophane will be backlit by the lights inside. Voila! Incidentally, this Halloween prop can be used again next year!

Halloween light strings are another of the reusable and cheap Halloween props. While a creepy entryway is part of the Halloween fun, you want to balance off the decorations with a bit of cuteness for the very young trick or treaters. You can light the front of your house for just a few bucks and the kids can have fun doing this task as well.

You might want to get a quantity of those fake spiderwebs. Attach them to places kids might touch, like the doorbell and porch or stair rails. Little plastic creepy crawlers should be in abundance, tucked into the spiderwebs. No glue needed. You might even offer a creepie as a 'party favor'. As the kids are leaving with their treats, give them an added scare. "You're welcome to take a little spider or worm home if you'd like to take one from the spiderweb patch..."

Instead of spending a lot of money on a couple of big pumpkins, pick up some of those tiny pumpkins at the supermarket. Get a few small packages of glass 'jewels' and let the kids create Jack o' Lantern eyes and mouths. Group them together on a table at the doorway, or spread them along the windowsills. These cheap Halloween props can also double as Halloween 'party favors'.

Every drugstore's Halloween section is flush with the printed-on-cardboard skeletons, witches and vampires. Let the kids put a little spark on these cheap Halloween props, gluing on fake jewels for eyes, some glittery red blood streaks and some accent creepiness with the day-glow markers. Hang these guys from a tree branch, porch rail, or anywhere they'll catch a breeze and flutter wickedly.

Making these cheap Halloween props heightens the fun of this single, annual scare fest. Better yet, most are reusable. Next year, the kids can add to their collection.

Halloween Party Decoration Ideas

If you're hosting a Halloween party, decorating your home in a spooky but fun way is essential for creating a creepy atmosphere. There are lots of things you can do to add a frightening touch to your party decor and make your home feel like a haunted house. Here are some ideas for Halloween party decorations.

Of course, no Halloween party is complete without a jack-o-lantern. It's customary to place one by your front door to welcome your guests, but you can also put them in other places around your home and yard. Carved pumpkins can also be used for holding dishes of food or bowls of punch.

In addition to candlelight, or at a kids' party where you want to avoid having lit candles, an easy and effective way to provide spooky lighting is to replace your regular light bulbs with colored ones, such as orange, red or green.

Inside there are lots of crafts that kids can make that you can hang around your home, in doorways, on picture frames or on curtain rails, for instance. Things that fit with the Halloween theme include bats and spiders. You can also buy cheap plastic versions that you can place in strategic places to add to the ambiance and make your guests jump, such as a plastic spider in the bathroom!

To save some money, why not have a go at making your own homemade Halloween decorations? If you have children, then you could get them involved in some projects. For example, you could make a stuffed dummy to prop in a window or porch to scare trick-or-treaters and your party guests. Use old clothes and stuff them with scrunched-up newspaper. For the head, you could use a pumpkin with a scary face painted on, or a balloon wearing a Halloween mask. You could make a dummy to look like a witch, goblin, vampire or zombie, depending on what materials you have to hand.

Other Halloween props that are easy to make include gravestones for decorating your yard. You could use large sheets of sturdy cardboard cut into tombstone shapes, or old pieces of wood. You can use tent pegs to fix them to your lawn and could place candles or tea-lights nearby to draw attention to them.

You could buy or make scary pictures to hang on your wall or stick over your mirrors. For example, you can buy sinister-looking portraits with eyes that glow or flash. Illuminated skulls are another option, which can work well placed in dark corners.

For decorating your table and displaying the party food, you could get an old white sheet and make red handprints on it, or stencil Halloween shapes on to it. You could also make edible decorations such as bloody finger biscuits.

Decorating your home and yard for Halloween can be a lot of fun and the whole family can help out. With a little advance planning and creativity, your decorations can really add to the party atmosphere.

How To Use Halloween Sounds To Complete Your Scary Party Or Display

If you are having a Halloween party or just want to make your house scary for trick or treaters, the aesthetic gruesomeness of your house or yard can be enhanced with creepy Halloween sounds. A scream from the bushes or a witch's cackle can make any Halloween decoration come to life and scare both young and old. The sounds will captivate the youngsters as they try to figure out if they are real or a part of the make believe, macabre world that you have created. The sounds of Halloween are just as important as that blood spattered door or the dummy you have hanging in a noose in the tree in your front yard.

You can buy commercial Halloween sounds on CD or audio tape. These types of products have been around for a long time and you might remember the 33 rpm album that was a hit around Halloween time. It featured the screams of the dying, the cackle of an old woman, the howl of the wolf, and even the creaking of an old door. The audio tracks of today are a lot scarier and have more variety. In recent recordings you can hear the screech of a cat, the moan of a ghost, and the screams and torment of a devil possessed soul. There are even recordings that feature the voice and Halloween sounds of Freddy Kruger, Jason, and Michael Myers.

These recordings can be used at Halloween parties or to aid ambiance to your Halloween decorations. A good technique is to use your surround sound system outdoors. You can place the speakers outdoors in different locations so that the high and low sounds come from all around. By doing this you can see the confusion and fright in your visitors eyes as they try to see where the sound is coming from. Have the speakers placed out of site so that the sounds will sound like they are coming from your Halloween displays or the bushes. The more speakers you have the more fun it will create as the Halloween sounds creak and scream around the trick or treaters and their parents.

A unique idea for Halloween sounds is to record your own. You and your friends can really get creative as you record your scariest voices. You can do a wolf howl or a mummy's moan and record it so that it can be played at your Halloween event. Be creative and try different sounds. Bang some pots and pans and use different sound props to create a plethora of scary sounds and terrifying sound affects. Record a vicious sounding dog and play it as your guests walk by. Watch them jump as they think Cujo is about to bite a chunk of them.

Halloween sounds do not have to be limited to the gruesome utterings. You can mix your audio with Halloween songs like 'Monster Mash' and theme songs from 'The Adams Family' and 'The Munsters'. Go wild and let your imagination go wild with you. Remember sounds are as important as looks on Halloween night. Don't go all out on displays and forget your Halloween sounds.

What Are Recommended Halloween Party Games?

For a novice event planner, nothing is more daunting than the question, "Mom, can I have a Halloween party?" There are Halloween decorations, costumes, recipes and activities to plan, which can be a big task. To throw the best party, try to keep the group small (10 is ideal) and organize Halloween fun games. Whether you're planning for a teenager, a pre-teen or a young child, there are a number of fun and affordable games to keep the entertainment rolling!

Halloween party games for younger kids can range from silly Halloween fun and getting-to-know-you games, to spooky ghost story telling and puzzle solving. An easy first game is "The Name Game," where index cards with monster or Halloween character names written on them are affixed to the back of each guest.

Then the person asks another guest "yes or no" questions until the right answer is guessed. Some kids love "pumpkin golf," which is a homemade golf game made out of a cardboard ramp, a carved pumpkin with an extremely large smile and a mini-golf set. "Ghost hunter" scavenger hunts always go over well for grade school children.

First wrap lollipops up like ghosts using white tissue paper and a black magic marker. Then hide them around the house and write clues about where they could be. To make it more competitive, create teams, such as "the witches," "the goblins" or "the werewolves," and have each team race back to place their lollipops into a bin as they find them, awarding a special prize to the winning team.

Or you may want to put a letter on each ghost that will form ten different Halloween words and award prizes as the kids guess them. You can also turn on "The Monster Mash" and have kids dance like monsters, freezing when the music is stopped. This will definitely have them cackling at the Halloween fun! Check out "Party Game Central" for more do-it-yourself ideas.

If you'd rather buy a few games than make them, then here are some Halloween party suggestions. Little kids will love the "Halloween Role Play Game," which can be purchased for $4.99 at Oriental Trading and plays up to six kids. The game includes a 10" spinner, 6 each of 8 assorted character cards, 6 "surprise" cards and instructions. They'll spin, pick a card and do an action, such as making bump sounds with their feet, talking like Frankenstein, doing the Monster Mash and acting like they've been zapped! Oriental Trading also has "Halloween Bend Game," which is an awesome seasonal version of Twister that kindergartners to teenagers will love! "Color Your Own Halloween Bingo" is another great game you can purchase for almost any age.

"Inflatable Halloween Limbo" or the "Inflatable Spider Ring Toss Game" are sure to add Halloween fun to your child's party. Ouija Boards are always creepy Halloween fun for teens. "Halloween Jenga" may be more your speed, with red and black blocks, custom rules and a special glow-in-the-dark die. If you roll a "pumpkin," then the direction of play is reversed; roll a "haunted house" and remove any piece or roll a "bat" and you can only remove an orange block. The Harry Potter "Scene It" DVD game is another fun one, testing kids of ages 8 and up with trivia from the Harry Potter movies.

One of the best Halloween Party games for adults is the "murder mystery dinner." Each party member will receive an advance invitation with instructions on the role they'll be playing. In your kit, you'll receive instructions on Halloween recipes to cook, what Halloween decorations to set up and even how to dress. Usually, character booklets, scripts and CD or DVDs will guide you through the plot to discover whodunit. A few recommended murder mystery games include: "Lethal Luau Murder Mystery Party Game" with a Hawaiian theme, "A Taste for Wine and Murder" with a Hollywood theme or "A Murder on the Grill" with a summer of 1950s theme. All are from Bepuzzled.

A Tricky Problem For a Halloween Party

Join in the Halloween fun

Every year, Halloween celebrations appear to be growing bigger and better. The shops are already showcasing their ghostly wares, with spooky fancy dress for children of all ages -- from 1 to 100!

Unless you live in the middle of nowhere, the chances are you'll have a parade of witches, wizards and goblins knocking on your door on Saturday 31 October.

Which means you have a choice: either, close the curtains, turn off the lights and hide behind the sofa all evening or join in the fun.

And it can be great fun. If you really get into the spirit (pardon the pun) of Halloween, we guarantee that you'll have a fantastic evening. In fact, why not do it in style and throw your own Halloween party? Which of course, has to be fancy dress.

Spooky Halloween decorations

The first thing you need to consider is the decorations. You'll be amazed at the range of accessories you can buy to put you in a spooky mood. From glow in the dark pumpkins to spray on cobwebs -- or you could even forget about the cleaning for a week and grow your own cobwebs!

Orange and black balloons are a quick and easy way to set the Halloween mood and if you want something a bit more special why not decorate with some creepy Halloween balloons.

But no Halloween decorations would be complete without the obligatory pumpkin. They're surprisingly easy to carve, just spoon out the pulp and seeds and carefully cut out eyes, nose and mouth with a sharp knife, taking care not to cut yourself.

Add a tea light and you're away.

Again, it's wise to follow sensible precautions when using naked flames, like keeping the pumpkin on a non-flammable surface and away from loose fabrics and young children. And never leave lighted candles unattended -- after all, the last thing you want is an early start to bonfire night.

Food to put you in the mood

Be creative with your party food. If it's a sit down meal, create a ghoulish menu, think worms and eyeballs for spaghetti and meatballs and you'll get the idea.

It's also amazing what a little bit of food coloring can achieve. Ever fancied dishing up green mash potatoes? Just don't blame me if your guests refuse to eat anything.

Dessert is the easiest course to turn deliciously devilish. Decorate fairy cakes with black icing and spider's webs, serve up jelly with floating eyeballs, drip blood red raspberry sauce over ice cream or you could even serve up a can of chocolate worms.

Imagine all the fun you could have with concocting spooky drinks.

Looking the part

As the host of the party your outfit needs to be given some careful thought. If you don't want to go to the expense of buying or hiring a fancy dress costume, then make your own.

Create the Thriller look by ripping apart your old clothes and adding a few dirty bandages (fake dirt, obviously). Alternatively, a pair of black leggings, a black leotard and some make-up will turn you into the purrrfect witch's cat. Failing that, dress in your normal party clothes and use some clever make-up, fake blood and a can of strong hairspray, to create that fashionable zombie effect.

For an inexpensive source of old or weird clothing, visit your local charity shop. You'll be amazed at some of the gems you'll find.

So there you go, from decorating your house with Halloween balloons to food and dressing up tips, you have everything you need to throw the perfect Halloween party. Just one last piece of advice - don't forget the treats for the little monsters who'll come knocking at the door, or you could end up with a tricky problem.

Have fun.

Halloween Fun For Old and Young Great Ideas For Celebrating Halloween

Halloween is an awesome holiday, so much more worth celebrating than just collecting candy from the neighbors. In our house Halloween planning began in late September. One of our family favorites was the tradition of "ghosting". We would find Halloween decorations, attach a small bag of candy and make cards that read "Happy Halloween. You've been Ghosted.. Pass it on!" Then we would take these and go all around town to their friends' homes and put them anonymously on the doors. As you can guess, the Ghosting spirit spread and so did the smiles!

With four children all trying to come up with costume ideas, it was also a challenging time. When they were small, we did our share of Princesses, Super Heroes and cute Animal costumes. Those were easy. However, as they got older they were annually in pursuit of "group" costume themes with their friends. We had The Wizard of Oz, hippies, Snow White and her dwarfs, sports teams, diva girls and even sailors to recall just a few. Half the fun was the discussions and planning that went into the process. Numerous trips to the party store, rummaging through closets, raiding Grandma's attic, making tie-dye t-shirts and raiding the girls old dance recital costumes were just a part of the fun. Of all the costumes I can recall over our 20 years of Halloween, my favorite had to be my son and his friends back in 1996. They decided to be the US Womens Olympic Gold Medal Gymnastic Team, complete with their own Bela Karolyi. They won Best Costume in the local parade and were the buzz of the neighborhoods as they trick or treated their way through town. It is memories like this that made me glad that we never settled for a quick costume purchase at the local store. Halloween truly was an event in our home.

We furthered the Halloween celebration with a huge Halloween party for all 4 kids, their friends and included the parents. This was no ordinary "Pin The Tail On The Pumpkin" party. This party evolved over the year into a "mega" event that in the kids memories was as big a part of Halloween as trick or treating. There were usually close to 40 kids plus at least 20 parents. They ate, went on a scary scavenger hunt and ended the night with a spectacular, very frightful, performance put on by the Dads. One year those crazy guys came parading down the street in full costumes, beating bongo drums, chanting and carrying torches; followed closely by a police car. It took a bit of explaining but the show went on! They would plan their show for weeks and it would change every year. One year it was a Monster Mash rock show, a séance a year later and a ghost from the graveyard on the loose in yet another year. Amidst the screams and the shrieks, there was a ton of laughter. Yes, like the costumes, this took a lot of work but was worth every moment of the planning.

So celebrate the Halloween season with all your energies. I can tell you from first hand experience, there will come a day when they are all out of the house and you will sorely miss all the fun and excitement. For more ideas, read further about our family Halloween celebration traditions at

Halloween Spirit

Now that the leaves on the trees are starting to change color and that familiar chill in the air can be felt, it's time to start thinking about that scariest of holidays; Halloween. Ghosts and goblins, ghouls and witches and all that candy! I don't think there is any time of year more exciting for kids than Halloween.

Halloween is celebrated on October 31st and "trick or treating" has become a tradition, but it's not the only one. Costume parties, haunted houses, hayrides and creepy movie festivals are all part of the weeks leading up to the big day. Here are some of my Halloween ideas, perhaps you'll use some of them this year.

Halloween decorating does not need to be expensive, but if you want you can spend a fortune. People do everything from the most simple decoration (a pumpkin) to extravagant light shows and my favourite personal haunted houses and yards. You need to find something which matches your budget and commitment. Dollar stores have a lot of inexpensive Halloween decorations, my favourite from the dollar stores are the glow in the dark spiders and skeletons. I hang the skeletons on tree branches and they light up at night giving a spooky chill to the yard.

I like to do a couple of pumpkins on Halloween, one for each of the kids, a family effort and of course my personal masterpiece (which I usually do on the 30th after the kids have gone to bed). You can find nice pumpkin templates all around the Internet, but be sure to use a sharp knife and if the kids are young, you do the carving, but let them tell you what to cut.

Fog is another Halloween essential for me. I use two fog machines, one in the house (I hope that stuff isn't dangerous) with some windows open for ventilation and one outside to highlight whatever creepy item I feel needs it. Usually the creepy item is a 6 foot tall ghost we like to call "scary big man". I purchased him at a garden centre and probably paid too much, but he's going on his 3rd year now and I stand by my purchase. He's totally cool!

Hay bales and corn stalks are great yard accent pieces and nothing brings out fall's creepiness better than those two items. If you live on a farm, you could even build a maze out of the bales and make the kids go through it to get to the front door.

Last but definitely not least is Halloween music. I've been building my collection for years, but for starters you can get a simple halloween sounds CD and put it on repeat. Chains, howling, screams make the young ones shake in their boots. The old ones (including parents) find it amusing but neat. I like to throw in a mix of halloween songs like monster mash and of course what Halloween would be complete without a little Danny Elfman. If you're not familiar with Mr Elfman's work, he has done soundtracks for some of the scariest movies out there. Google him and see what comes back.

So, get started early. Get the decorations up and maybe have a Halloween party too. Christmas shopping is just around the corner, so enjoy Halloween while you can. It's the chance for every grown up to act like a kid again.

Homemade Halloween Props Make For Ghoulish Fun

Halloween used to be all about kids getting into costume and traipsing door to door in search of candy handouts. However, adults are getting into the act in a big way these days, and you can see spooky Halloween decorations sprouting up all over town. You may have even stopped to gape at some of the great displays wondering how the people who live in the house can afford to spend so much on Halloween decorations. Would you believe that even though the stores are stuffed with expensive Halloween merchandise, many people are now displaying homemade Halloween props?

The Internet is filled with websites dedicated to Halloween, and many of them will give you ideas and even working plans for homemade Halloween props. You can start small by building such classic items as spooky tombstones and then expand your repertoire to include skeletons in many gruesome poses and a gaggle of flying ghosts and witches. No one will ever know that you made these fantastic decorations yourself, because you will find information telling you how to use eerie lighting and sounds to make your scenes come alive.

If you're making your props for indoor décor, you will be able to make them out of very basic materials, such as foam core board, cardboard, poster board, spray paint, old clothes, and papier mache.

You can create a spooky backdrop for a party as simply as by covering furniture with old white sheets and shredding a bag of fiber fill to use as instant cobwebs. Switching the lighting in your home from white bulbs to red or black ones can cast an eerie glow. When clearing out your garden in the Fall, save some flowers on their stems and hang them upside down in your garage or basement to dry out. Once they've completely dried you can spray paint them with black for a spooky bouquet.

Getting into the spirit of Halloween doesn't have to be expensive, because there are thousands of homemade Halloween props you can create that will cost very little. It doesn't take a wad of cash in order to make your decorations seem creepy and spooky. All it takes is a little know-how and a lot of creativity.

Pirate Birthday Party Ideas - 7 Top Dos and Don'ts For a Great Kid's Theme Party

If your little buccaneer is dreaming of having a pirate party for his birthday, he's not alone. This theme remains extremely popular for young mateys of all ages. Here are the top seven dos and don'ts for making this the best celebration ever.

1. DO build excitement for the theme by sending out pirate birthday invitations. You can make your own by decorating old looking paper to appear like a treasure map. Write your party information on the map and add skull and crossbones stickers.

If you'd rather not construct hand crafted invites, then you can buy them. Party supply stores offer packets of ready made cards to announce the activities. Just fill them out and you're ready to go. Or you could order personalized pirate invitations online, some of which can even include a photo of your child.

2. DON'T spend a lot of money on decorating for the party. You can achieve great effects without going through too many gold doubloons. Hang black balloons and fishing nets around the house. Attach seashell and plastic fish, crabs and lobsters to the nets. Spray paint an old styrofoam cooler brown and embellish it so it looks like a treasure chest. Use items you may already have on hand, such as a Halloween skeleton, toy canon or a stuffed animal parrot. Scatter plastic or chocolate gold coins on the table. And don't forget to fly the pirate flag.

3. DO help the kids dress up like pirates. When they arrive, provide them with eye patches, bandanas and three corner hats. A station for temporary tattoos is also a good way to get them in the mood for the party.

4. DON'T leave the kids unsupervised with plastic swords. If you've included fake weapons as part of the costumes for your guests, be careful. The impulse to start dueling is nearly irresistible, so keep a close watch.

5. DO get creative with the menu. You can take a kid's favorite, like hot dogs and adapt them to your theme. For example, attach a sail with toothpicks to the frankfurter to make a ship or split it on the bottom to form an octopus. Offer bowls of blue jello with gummy fish imbedded in the middle. Rename food to fit the atmosphere. Chicken nuggets become golden coins and peanut butter and jelly is transformed into peanut butter and jellyfish.

A treasure chest cake is easy to make. Use two cakes baked in 13x9 inch pans and when cool, stack them on top of each other. Use popsicle or wood dowel sticks to keep the chest "open". Frost the cake, in that position, with chocolate icing. You can use fruit roll-ups to simulate the bolts. Then put your treasure in the opening. Use gold chocolate coins, candy necklaces and wrapped hard candy jewels to give the effect of an overflowing bounty of riches.

6. DO plan a lot of fun pirate games. Play "swab the deck" races with brooms and beach balls. Another good one is pin the "x" on the treasure map. The kids could all "walk the plank" on a flat or slightly elevated board. If they make it across without going overboard, they win. And of course, you'll have to engage them in a treasure hunt. The older the group of kids, the more challenging you can make the clues. But this is always a sure-fire hit.

7. DON'T let the kids leave without their loot. The goodie bag can contain any combination of treasures like a candy necklace, gold coins, eye patch, pirate stickers, temporary tattoos, plastic or plush parrot or anything with a skull and crossbones. You could even add a custom item like a personalized pirate notebook, chocolate bar or magnet as another cool party favor.

So, ahoy all mateys! Follow these tips and you're sure to put together a pirate birthday party filled with fun. Just set sail and create those lasting memories for your child.

How to Organize a Theme Party - 7 Steps You Must Know

Organizing a theme party is all about fun laughter and good times. With flair and imagination let your inner child express itself and dress your self up in your favorite character costume.

To guarantee the success of your next theme party, there are 7 steps you absolutely must know. These 7 steps reveal the secrets to ensuring that every party you ever throw being an amazing success. It's all about planning and foresight.

Step 1 - Choose the date and time of your party.

Make a decision on when you would like to have your theme party. Check in with your friends to see if they are available before sending out the invitations. That way you can be sure that there will be no disappointment if your friends don't arrive on the night.

A must know tip: Keep in mind that long weekends may not be the ideal time to plan your theme party. Quite often people go away and you may find it difficult to fill your guest list with all of your special friends.

Step 2 - Set the Stage, the Theme has Begun

When choosing a theme for your theme party, it is a good idea to consider the season and time of the year. This may be a great way to decide what theme you would like to have. A flimsy costume on a cold winters evening would not be compatible with the season and weather.

A must know tip: Make sure that your theme party is organized to show case costumes that are compatible with the weather at the time of year you are holding your party. Keeping the theme party and costumes consistent will ensure everyone is comfortable and contribute greatly towards a successful event.

Step 3 - Source Your Venue

A venue that is central and easily accessible to all those on your guest list is usually the best approach to take when considering what venue you will use for your theme party. Consider those guests that may be from out of town and look at available accommodation and prices within a reasonable distance to the venue you are considering before making a final decision and placing a deposit to secure the venue.

A must know tip: when selecting your venue look at it to see whether or not you can use the venue as the ideal theme for your party. E.g. Are you considering a boat for your venue? Then perhaps an ideal theme party would be "Pirates and Wenches".

Step 4 - Picking a Costume and Creating Your Character

Now the real fun begins! It's time to pick your costume and plan your entrance!! When posting out invitations to your theme party, include some suggestions as to where they can get their costume from. Costumes can be purchased either new or 2nd hand or hired from any fancy dress store.

If you decide you would like to make your costume, many haberdashery stores give away old pattern books. This is a gold mine of information on ideas of what costume to pick and make your self.

Perhaps you would prefer to hire your costume. Many fancy dress stores can advise you on styles, colors, and a theme for your party, music and lots more. Go online and check out the various costumes available.

A Must Know Tip: To save time and energy check out some of the many online party or costume hire sites, as a starting point to help you decide on your theme party and what costume you would like to wear. There are some online stores that will assist you with online ordering of costumes and accessories which is a huge bonus.

Step 5 - Selecting and Planning Your Menu

The date has been chosen, the venue has been booked, the theme decided and the costume selected. The party is heating up and it's all systems go. Music, dancing, goods times and laughter are on their way!! So what are you going to eat?

Consider the possibilities when it comes to providing food for your guests. Will you use caterers, cook yourself or ask your guests to all bring a plate along.

Keeping the food within a theme brings the whole party theme together, e.g. if you are holding a western party, why not have corn on the cob, chili con carne, savory baked beans.

A Must Know Tip: If you have decided to ask your guests to bring a plate, plan your menu prior to sending out the invitations and request the dish on their invitation. This will avoid confusion and doubling up of dishes. If you have decided to do all the cooking yourself, consider which recipes can be cooked in advance and stored in the freezer.

Step 6 - Decoration and Props Give You Theme and Character

No theme party is complete without decorations and props. The decoration and props can be guaranteed to send your party off with a bang. They will create an atmosphere that will relax your guests and ease them into their character for the night.

Many party hire stores offer balloons, fog machines, table/chairs, lighting, heaters, cocktail machines and props so you are sure to find exactly what it is you are looking for.

Short on time -order online

A Must Know Tip: Do it yourself balloon kits - gas bottles can be hired from your local party hire store

Step 7 - Select Your Music and Get the Party Rocking

Music can be the make or break of any party, so it's important to take the time to pre-select any music. When planning a theme party consistency through out all areas of your party is vital. This includes the music and equipment so make sure the music fits the theme. As mentioned above if your party is western, then obviously country and western music will be consistent with the theme of your party.

A Must Know Tip: 2nd hand music stores are a great place to pick up music if you are not using a duke box or some other form of hire music equipment. Check in with your guests to see if they have any music that will fit the theme. Ask them to bring a copy if they can. Borrowing from the local library is also a cost effective alternative to buying music just for your theme party.

Remember when planning your next theme party to keep the theme consistent right from the venue, props and decorations leading into the costumes and characters and onto the food and music.

If you follow these 7 must know steps you can be rest assured that your next theme party will be a night filled with memories of goods times laughter and dancing.
