The Secret to a Great Party is in the Birthday Party Decorations

Birthday Party Decorations are the key to a successful party, as well as a good time for all guests. When choosing the specific decorations, you should always keep in mind the age group of your target audience. Age appropriate decorations, especially for a birthday party for children.

Birthday party decorations for young children are not only age specific, but typically gender specific as well. For girls, princess themes are quite common, as well as car racing or action figure themes for young boys. Whatever theme you choose you should always remember to stick with that theme and not try to incorporate unrelated things into it. However, keep in mind the age group of the guests, at all times.

For children typically under the age of seven, live characters, are always a great hit with all the guests. Not only is this the best decoration of the party, used to tie it all together, but also provides helpful entertainment.

Themes are not only important at birthday parties for children. Adult parties call for a theme as well in order to plan the decorations accordingly, however the theme itself may appear less obvious. Typically the theme is a specific color, rather than an idea. However, for important coming of age parties, such as: 21, 30, 40, etc. These should always be the central theme in your party.

Games can be a key factor at any party. The game should incorporate the theme already present, and can be a nice way to include all the guests together. At a party for young children it is important that as the host, you make sure that every child is included in the game equally so as not to bring about jealousy at the party. At a party for adults, this is the most opportune time to break the ice among all the guests. Games that include the first names of each guest are usually a good idea in order to help everyone become better acquainted.

The party theme can also be included in the food served. Birthday parties that fall close to big holidays may be centered on this idea. As an example, food for a Halloween centered party may be cupcakes with black frosting, or dressed up as other scary ideas or animals. For Christmas themes, Santa centered cupcakes or snowflake cookies are a nice touch.

As a whole, Birthday Party Decorations are the main factor in a successful party because they are the center of everything. When done correctly, your guests should simply subtly notice how nicely the entire party is tied together. Decorations need not overwhelm the party in excess; therefore, shopping on a budget is never a problem.

When it Comes to a Cupcake's Decorations it All Begins With the Icing

Your Cupcake's Decorations start with the icings which come in many different types, butter-cream, flat, foam, fondants, fudge, royal icing and glazes.

Icings act as the glue for the many different ingredients you can use to decorate your cakes with today (sprinkles, nuts, pretzels, chocolate leaves, cookie crumbs to name but a few).

So, which type of icing should be used for the basis of your cupcake's decorations?

Well, there are different jobs for different icings, for your mini cakes it's best to use butter-cream, fudge, frosting or fondants.

Whichever type you decide to use, the most important thing to remember is to be patient, wait until they are completely cool before starting to decorate or you will just end up with a runny soggy mess.

You can also add another layer of flavor by spreading sugar syrup (boiled sugar, water, and flavoring e.g. citrus juice) to the top once they have cooled, this also has the added benefit of keeping them moist for longer. If you are running short of time on the day of baking, you can always use this tip to keep them moist until you have time to decorate them (should give you an extra couple of days grace).

I have just finished reading an article about Ace of cakes star Duff Goldman and his own line of products for decorating cakes.

Fondants, sprinkles, icing pouches, to the more unique tattoos and graffiti for all your decorating needs, sounds very cool!

Popped into Michael's and was happy to find, on the bakery section, that the whole range of products by Duff are available, so I will definitely be trying those out over the coming weeks.

Also watched a video tutorial recently which gave ideas for how to create spiders webs or star burst effects, using two colors of bought frosting and a couple of zip lock bags, so I jotted down the method below:

Put a cup of vanilla frosting into a zip lock bag.
Add a couple of drops of food coloring.
Put another cup of vanilla frosting into a separate zip lock bag.
Again add a few drops of a different food coloring.
On a cupcake which has been covered with a flat layer of frosting, take the zip lock bag and snip off the edge so that you can pipe onto the cupcake.
Start at the center and pipe a spiral all the way to the edge.
Grab the second zip lock bag of the contrasting color and pipe in between the first spiral, again until you reach the edge.
Take a tooth pick and starting in the center drag out to the edges, repeat all the way around.

You now have the perfect spiders web, this would be great for a Halloween holiday party.

Also works equally well as a star burst effect, if you were to use red, white and blue, for cupcake decorations for a 4Th of July party.

I'm on a journey of discovery into the wonderful world of cupcakes, decorations, ideas and designs. I'm hoping to discover easy creative methods for decorating these mouth watering treats for the everyday and special occasion moments in life.

Creepy Halloween Party Decorations For an Adult Halloween Party

When done right, good Halloween party decorations and props can give your adult guests genuine chills they'll remember long after the party. One of the most effective ways to give your decor more psychological impact is to choose a theme. A coherent theme helps set the mood better than a collection of random decorations.

Straight Out of a Horror Movie

If you're a movie buff, this theme will be easy to create. Say your favorite scary movie is Psycho. Set up your entry way to look like the lobby of the Bates motel, complete with guest book. In the living room, dress up a corpse or skeleton prop as the late Mrs. Bates. And don't forget to put the remains of poor Marion Crane in the shower. With the horror movie set theme, details really help. Using the Psycho theme as an example, you might hang a lenticular changing portrait in your living room and label it "Mother."

Haunting Ghosts

Even those who claim they "don't believe in ghosts" still get a little spooked by seemingly paranormal activity when the mood is right. To really rock the ghost theme, don't skimp on your ghost decorations and props. Hanging bed sheets won't cut it. What you want, at least for your most visible ghosts, are specters that look like they used to be human. It's the twisted faces, pale skin and hollow eyes that really creep people out. If you have some room in your Halloween decorations budget, look into a ghost illusion prop. These project semi-transparent, 3-D figures that look disturbingly realistic. Ghost illusion DVDs will get you a similar effect cheaper.

A Night with the Devil

This is another theme that's more about chills than gore. To get the most out of this theme, set up a devil prop that's as life-like as you can find. Place him where your guests will be spending most of their time, whether that's in the living room or outside around a bonfire. To compliment your devil, pick up some ghouls and demons. Decent motion- or sound-activated animated demons can be found for less than $30. Hang up a few winged demons and leave standing ones lurking in dark corners. Placing one outside on a window ledge looking in also creates a nice creepy effect.

Once you have a theme in mind, decorating is just a matter of knowing where to get affordable, quality Halloween party decorations and how to set them up for the greatest impact. Visit HalloweenPartyDecorations.org for cheap decor and props and ideas on setting them up.

Thanksgiving Decorations and Party Ideas

When guests are invited to enjoy a traditional Thanksgiving dinner at your house, you may want to create festive and beautiful Thanksgiving decorations to transform your home into a wonderful autumn landscape.

Thanksgiving dinner is usually set around a formal dinner setting but if you are having a lot of guests and don't have enough seating, you can set up a buffet table. Start off by using natural items you would find in the fall months. Go outside and collect changing leaves, pinecones, twigs with berries still attached and any other element from nature that you might think you can use in your decorations.

Press the leaves in books ahead of time so they have time to dry out before Thanksgiving Day. Create a thrilling cornucopia by spray painting all of the vegetables the same color; burgundy, silver, or gold. Your cornucopia can be used as your table's centerpiece or for a decoration on another flat surface.

Use your leftover Halloween pumpkins in your Thanksgiving decorations. Bring a Thanksgiving scene to life on the front of your pumpkin by using paint with stamps or stencils. Cut a hole out of the top of the pumpkin and use it as a vase to hold gold or orange mums or carnations or daisies.

Instead of using pieces of paper for place cards, create variety by using mini pumpkins or gourds. Write the names of your dinner guests on the mini pumpkins or gourds to mark each table setting. Create an interesting and beautiful autumn garland by using autumn leaves, small pinecones, nuts and berries.

Drape the garland around the room for a festive Thanksgiving atmosphere. Plan a few fun games and activities if you are going to have kids at your dinner. Surf the internet for ideas. Make sure to use plenty of Thanksgiving Day colors throughout your entire home. Oranges, gold, browns and burgundies are the perfect Thanksgiving Day pallet.

Homemade Halloween Party Decorations - Fun and Easy

Halloween is one of those times of the year when children enjoy getting as creative as they want, creating what they consider funny, or scary decorations, and nobody can say any different. It is also a time when families can get together to make a variety of different holiday themes, from costume parties, get-togethers, and every one helps in the decorating.

There are many party decorations that are fun and easy to do. One of them is making giant, or monster foot prints out of large cheap sponges. You can use stencils, or just free hand with markers, cut out the shape of the foot print, and use a shallow pan with some non toxic washable paint, and make footprints going up to your door, along the wall, or just about any place else. You simply flip the sponge over to make the other foot print.

Instead of wasting a punch of pumpkins buy carving them up, use colored markers to draw faces on the outside. This is much safe for smaller children, and you can let them be as creative as you want. You can always open them up later and get the seeds out, or use them to make pumpkin pies for dessert, without the pumpkin rotting and going to waste. One unique idea, for a change of pace, is use large bell peppers to carve as Halloween Jack-O-Lanterns. You can also get them in a variety of different colors, to make things even more festive.

Another fun and cool idea is to make hanging bats from cardboard egg cartons. All you need are a few cartons, some black crafting paint, some googley eyes, and some black yarn, or invisible thread. Cut the egg holder part of the carton into four equal pieces, with three sections each, then cut the bat wings out of both sides of the end sections. Paint them black, let dry and then glue on the eyes. For the string, simply use a nail, screw or thumbtack to make a hole at the top, slide the thread through. You can tie the end around something to act as a stopper, and there you go!

You can also use Halloween shaped cookie cutters for a number of Halloween decorating ideas, not just for cutting out cookie shapes. All you need are the cutters, a washable ink marking pen, and some heavy duty construction paper, in Halloween colors. Starting at one side of the paper, trace around the cutters, until the page is filled, then cut them out. You can tape them to what ever surfaces you want, or have them hanging down as well.

There are many more Halloween party decorating ideas to choose from, many more than can be mentioned here. There are assortments of books on the subject, as well as numerous websites, 90% of which are totally free to download and print up at your leisure. There are also templates that you can order, stencils, as well as many other helpful tips and information to give you creative Halloween ideas for years to come.

Halloween Table Decorations

Last week I discussed an "orange" themed Halloween party and now I will share with you some Halloween party tips for Halloween table decorations. These tips are easy to do and inexpensive to produce.

With all of my events, no matter if they are serious fundraising galas or whimsical birthday parties; I still like to keep an element of style, hip and class to the table decor. Even when I use inexpensive props such as the Halloween items for this Halloween display, I still like to mix and match with more expensive-looking or natural Halloween items too.

There are so many choices when looking at decorations for Halloween. What I like to do is collect Halloween items during the season and then on November 1st, go back to the drug store or party supply store and pick-up whatever is left over and inexpensive. Nothing makes me feel better than garnering bargains on cheap Halloween decorations. I make sure to buy items that I will have a use for and that will store easily in my party planning design box, an item I discuss in Budget Bash - Simply Fabulous Events on a Budget.

To create the whimsical Halloween table decorations for this article I used the following:

Gold organza fabric for a table runner - You can buy any type of fabric and make a table runner, scrunch up unfinished fabric down the center of the table or use pinking sheers and cut a runner for a one- or two-time use (more uses are possible if you are careful with the fabric). For this table, I used a table runner from a previous event and scrunched it down the center of the table.

I picked up the following decorations for Halloween at the end of the season a few years ago and have kept these items in my party planning design box. These cheap Halloween decorations are candy corn twinkle lights, decorative candy dishes, orange votive candles and glass votive candle holders, mini-plastic pumpkin buckets and a witch's hat. I may have spent a total of $15 for all of these Halloween items and have used them for the past three seasons.

While I was picking up dinner at the market, I grabbed a bunch of sunflowers, rust-colored mums, Halloween candy and mini-pumpkins. A fun idea is to carve the mini-pumpkin's center and sides (if you have the time) to create votive candle holder. If not, do what I did and just add them to the table as a décor item.

Decorating the table was fast and easy. I just scrunched up the table runner and intertwined the candy corn twinkle lights with the fabric runner. I placed the witch's hat in the center of the table (I stuffed the center of the hat with a paper bag to make it stand up straight), filled the candy dishes with Halloween candy, placed the votives and pumpkins on the table and then placed the sunflowers loosely on the table. To add a bit of color besides orange and yellow to the table, I pulled out two small blue vases and placed the mums in those.

To create the total look of the Halloween table decorations didn't take long at all and I coordinated my food shopping along with it. An added bonus to this table decoration is that it will last quite a few days. Just remember to unplug the lights when you are not around the table to prevent any type of electrical hazard from happening and if you have animals who like to leap onto your dining room table, you may want to remove the candy and loose flowers as well when you are not in the room.

I hope you found this Halloween party decoration tip useful.

4 Easy Ideas For Halloween Decorations For Your Yard

Some communities are rather dull and drab during the holidays, while others go all out and decorate with style. This occurs at Halloween time as well as other holidays. Here are some easy ideas I have seen over the years that will transform your yard on October 31st:

Jack-O-Lanterns - These are still the best yard decorations, as they can be done by adults and children together. Kids love scooping out all that goopy mess inside, while adults like the illuminated finished product. Don't forget to go online and look for cut-out stencils. Instead of carving out a face this year, you can carve a hissing black cat with his back arched or a witch in front of a moon.

Cardboard Cut-Out Headstones - These are so simple! All you have to do is cut out headstone shapes from an old box and paint them with a glittery or flat gray paint. If you want to get really crafty, you can add names of friends you are sure will be stopping by to the stones, along with a rhyming cause of death. The popular example I remember goes: "Here lies good ol' Fred. A great big rock fell on his head." Not only will they make the yard look great, but they will be a conversation piece, as well.

Hanging Bats and Spiders - Craft stores everywhere carry plastic bats and spiders during the Halloween season. If you have trees in your front yard anywhere, hang these decorations all over them with clear fishing line. You can add an extra touch to the spiders by putting a bunch of the spider web decorations in the tree branches along with the spiders. You can also find strings of bat and spider lights, which are exactly like Christmas lights. These make fun additions to your decoration repertoire.

Illumination Bags - Not only are these great decorations, but they keep the trick-or-treaters safe. Bags with little lights or candles inside will light the way to your front yard, helping the eager kids avoid falls. Look for safe instructions to make your own or buy them in bulk to line your driveway and sidewalk.

How you decorate and what you decorate with are really up to you. You don't have to spend a lot of money to make your front area attractive to those trick-or-treaters who might be visiting.

Ideas For Party Decorations

Everyone loves a party! But what gives a party more life are the decorations, nothing says 'party' like the decor strung about for the occasion. Below are 10 great ideas for party decorations, and they're not too over the top either.

1. Balloons. These inexpensive, light objects can be manipulated and purchased in different colors and sizes to fit any party theme. Hang or pin balloons up on the wall using double-sided sticky tape. Many party ideas generally include balloons since they are easy to use. Even twisting and manipulating long balloons can create fun characters to decorate with.

2. Ribbons are another way to dress up a party. Crimped, tissue paper ribbon known as 'streamers' work well when twisted with another color at the center then hung at different corners of the ceiling. The ribbons are long enough to even make a decorative center piece.

3. Pinatas, generally a child's item, can also liven up a party. They can be filled with candy, small prizes, and gift cards then strung up over a branch or lever to be busted open for enjoyment.

4. Candles can also serve as a party decorations. More often, candles are used for adult or mature themed parties. Avoiding candles around children's parties is a good way to prevent a possible fire.

5. Theme oriented food. Most Halloween parties consist of themed foods like, graveyard decorated cakes, pumpkin frosted cupcakes, jello 'brain' cups, etc. Having themed oriented food can also help your decoration efforts.

6. Costumes are not only reserved for Halloween, but they can also be utilized to enhance the theme of the party anytime of the year. A 70's party may consist of groups of friends dressing in that style era. Even a child's party can implement costumes as a suggestion for the party. This can be enticing especially if there will be prizes handed out to the best costumes.

7. Plastic blow-up items are another way to decorate for a party. Some luau parties have blown up palm trees and tiki lamps to give the overall effect of being in the tropics. This can be accompanied by fruity mixed drinks, Hawaiian style food and music.

8. Music, while not an actual tangible decor, most certainly will liven up any party. Based on what your theme is, even children's parties, theme oriented music can enhance the feel of the party. Integrating a dance or dance contest with the music will attract more participants.

9. Lighting. Much like candles to a more formal social gathering, strobe lighting, spot lighting or even lamps can be used as illuminated decor for your gathering. Even solid or flashing Christmas lights can be used for decoration around the main event of your party.

10. Tableware is a party decor some people do over look. While it is fine to use generic table wear, decorative plates, napkins and silverware can enhance complete the look of your party. Having fine china present for a formal party works well; however, for a livelier party or child's party, decorative plates and napkins work better.

With the great ideas for party decorations above, your party will kick off with the excitement you hope to convey to your guests!

Halloween Parties - Ideas For Scary Decorations

Whether you are entertaining adults or children or both, decorations are important in setting the proper creepy atmosphere for Halloween parties. You can come up with some pretty scary decorations that don't cost much money, and they are guaranteed to give your guests the chills.

The secret to setting the right atmosphere for Halloween parties is lighting. Using novelty colored light bulbs in lamps, wall lights, sconces and even small directional lighting gives your home a new look and makes even the most humble scary decorations look eerie. Keep all overhead lights off and use a mix of lighting strategies to make guests think they may be partying in a haunted house.

Jack-o-Lanterns can be either whimsical or creepy, so pack tables, corners and the entryway with grimacing faces. Choose pumpkins that seem a little odd with discoloration, bumpy growths or even flat on one side. Carve faces that show eerie expressions, and then make a few more as lanterns. Simply take a long 4-inch nail and hammer it all over through the pumpkin shell in random spots. Pair a few lantern pumpkins with some creepy faces, place non-candle lights in them and watch them glow.

An easy eerie decoration for a Halloween party room is to cover the ceiling in bats. Using black construction paper, cut out several dozen simple bat shapes. Tape black thread to the back of the bat and tape the other end to the ceiling. In low light and dangling on invisible thread, the ceiling of bats will look like they are diving and swooping.

There are plenty of commercial decorations for sale around Halloween, from shrieking motion activated ghosts and zombies to creepy props such as Halloween skeletons, spider webs with giant hairy inhabitants, door covers that feature bloody bones and wicked monsters and any manner of window and wall clings with realistic pictures of Halloween horror scenes. Choosing a few key items and placing them in a central or prominent location will up the scare factor for your guests.

Don't ignore the little details that add so much to Halloween parties. Drape spider webs in unlikely places and place plastic spiders everywhere. Play spooky background sounds from specially created Halloween CDs. Make warning signs for all doorways and windows, such as "Keep Out," "Condemned," "Beware" and "Warning."

Halloween Decorations That Won't Break The Bank

Try these ideas for affordable ways to turn your home into a haunted house at Halloween.

Witches Lair

Simply cut down the sides of wheelie bin size bin liners and open out. The bin liners are just the right size to cover the wall from floor to ceiling. Stick the bin liners all around the walls to black out. Cut the bin liner into strips at door opening. Decorate with pumpkin shapes and fake spiders webs or draw a spiders web with a silver marker or tipex pen. It's amazing how effective it is.

Ghost and Ghouls

Turn your old cereal boxes into ghosts and ghouls. Cut down the length of a cereal box and trim into a rectangle shape. Form a cylinder shape with the plain side on the outside. Draw a ghostly face on the cylinder. Cut the top off a white bin liner or white plastic bag and trim to a rectangular shape. Cut strips into the plastic leaving at least 5cm at the top. Stick around the inside of the ghosts face. Stick some string to the top and hang from the ceiling.

Witch

A Witches lair is not complete without a witch. Find the kids black clothes and stuff with towels or modeling balloons to make a body. Add a green balloon to the head and decorate with wool hair and a hat. Stick a green paper nose on and draw a face on the balloon. Fill socks and gloves for hands and feet. Here is our rather deflated witch she had enjoyed too many Halloween parties by the time we took this photo!

Trick or Treaters

Dress up all the kids cuddly toys as trick or treaters holding torches or flashing lights. Dismembered dolls scattered around the witches lair with red lipstick for blood always gives the kids a fright.

Pumpkin Plates

Real pumpkins are fantastic but one doesn't make a big impact and is not always suitable for the very young. So why not paint a paper plate orange and cut out the eyes. Dot the around the witches lair with a torch behind to light up or stick to the decorated walls.

Halloween Party Ideas For Decorations to have a Creepy Ghostly Celebration

When planning a Halloween party it is a lot of fun to plan a theme party. Not only can you plan your costumes and decorations easily, but you can also use the theme to select invitations and help your guests pick their costumes too. Of course, the theme of a party depends on the age of the guests. Here are some suggestions for guests of all age.

For children elementary age and younger, the easiest thing to do is to have a party that will probably allow them to wear the costume they had been planning on all along. These could include a Sesame Street Monster Party, Cartoon Stars Party, and Blues Clues Mystery Party (complete with Handy Dandy Notebooks for all the guests), Monsters, Inc. Party or even a Superheroes party for the boys or a Princess party for the girls.

For older children and pre-teens fun themes may include Goosebumps Party, TV Monster Parties (guests come as one of the monsters or monster family members seen on television i.e., Munsters, Addams family, etc.), Literary Monsters (Headless Horsemen, Frankenstein, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, and Dracula would be just a few of many possibilities).

For high schoolers or adults, possible themes might include: Old School Monsters - you know the ones from way back before color was introduced to television or movies (Frankenstein, Bride of Frankenstein, Mummy, Creature of the Black Lagoon, Werewolf, Dracula, Phantom, Thing, Fly, Godzilla, Blob, or King Kong for starters), Science Fiction and B Movie Casting Call (Attack of the Killer Tomatoes, Rocky Horror, The Blob, The Alien Machine, etc.), Clowns - who doesn't find clowns and mimes just a little on the freaky side? (Bozo, It, Krusty, Ronald, etc.), Fortune Teller or Seance (everyone should bring their fortune telling device of choice be it tarot, magic 8 balls, ouija, etc.), Dead Poets, Musicians, & Author's Society (everyone comes dressed as their favorite dead performer - a karaoke machine and an open mic for poetry recitations will add a unique twist to the night!).

Easy Indoor Halloween Decorations

I always like to start with a theme for my Halloween decorations. Ghosts, ghouls, skeletons, etc... then build from that point.

In a ghost theme, you can create ghosts from sheets and pin them up on walls or have them hang from different elevations in your home. Such as railings, doorways, lamps, cabinets etc. are inventive.

Ghouls and skeletons are pretty much the same concept except they can be placed in a chair or a bathroom or place it on a wall right where people might be coming in.

Pumpkins are my favorite theme. You can carve many different designs out of a pumpkin even if you aren't very artistic. There are stencils for carving pumpkins such as pet faces, silly faces, scary faces, or even inanimate objects such as tomb stones. How about a carving of a pumpkin?

I always thought it would be cool to have a pumpkin carving contest. The guests can bring their own pumpkin and you decide if it should be carved at your house or if it should already be carved when they arrive. I like the latter idea because of the mess they make. If you do decide you want it done at your house just insist they clean the pumpkin before they arrive. This will cut down on the mess. Put garbage containers near every two people and have a time limit. You can judge by categories or just overall whose was the best. And then the pumpkins become part of your decor.

Be sure to use plenty of spider webs so your house looks creepy. Spiders are great also. If you have a basement and use it as your party room place spiders lining the walls going down the stairs with a large spider up above.

In the bathroom if you really want to scare someone squirt fake blood all over the tub walls and shower curtain then close the curtains part way. Then you can put some fake body parts in the tub. And don't forget the sound effects.

Halloween can be as much fun for decorations as Christmas. So have a ghoulish good time.

Outdoor Halloween decorations are becoming more and more popular every year. One of the greatest past times for this particular holiday is to make your yard as scary as possible. Placing fake spider webs in the trees or hanging swaying ghost from tree limbs or the ceilings of your porch.

These are just a few of the outdoor Halloween decorations that you can choose to place in your yard. Every year, you can find more and more of these outdoor Halloween decorations on the market. There are many ways that you can go about decorating your yard for this frightful and fun holiday.

When first thinking about using outdoor Halloween decorations, it is always a good idea to first plan out what you want to use and how you want to set them up. One way that you can go about decorating your yard is to go with a particular Halloween theme. Choosing a theme will make your Halloween decorating ideas be more effective.

Such themes may consist of the mad scientist lab, the haunted castle or even the ghost and ghoul filled graveyard. Using themes will allow you to choose the right decorations for your Halloween theme. Although, that using these themes or other Halloween themes can be more effective, do not let this hinder your taste. You should decorate your yard in whatever you feel would be appropriate for your needs.

You can start by creating a diagram of where you will want to place your decorations. Creative Ideas For Halloween Decorations

With 36.1 million trick-or-treaters visiting homes in 2006, it comes as no surprise that we all want our homes to look as "Halloweenish" as possible for the big night.

Here are some simple Halloween decorating ideas that will make your home look festive but won't break the bank.

Orange Lights

Change the light bulbs in your outdoor lanterns or house lights to orange lights. If you can't find orange light bulbs, you can purchase inexpensive Halloween themed string lights (like Christmas lights) and hang them around your front door.

Make Your Own Luminaries

Place homemade Halloween luminaries alongside the sidewalk or walkway up to your front door. You can make easy and inexpensive luminaries with paper lunch sacks. You can either leave them the original brown or spray paint them orange.

On each bag, lightly draw in pencil a rough outline of a pumpkin, ghost or spider. With a sharpened pencil or nail, poke holes about every inch along the outline of the design.

Fill each bag with approximately 1 ½-2 cups of sand. Place a votive candle in a glass votive holder and securely place the votive in the sand (or use glow sticks if you're leaving your home unattended). Light the votives at dusk on Halloween night and your home will have a beautiful Halloween glow.

Make Your Own Scarecrow

Using old slacks, an old flannel shirt, some hay and a straw hat, you can make your home come alive with a friendly scarecrow welcoming your trick-or-treaters.

The other supplies you'll need are twine, permanent marker, an old pillowcase and an outdoor chair.

Stuff the pants and shirt firmly with hay, leaving some of the hay sticking out from the bottom of the legs and bottom of the sleeves. Position the scarecrow's pants in the chair and shift the hay so he "sits" comfortably in the chair.

Tie the arms and legs off with twine. Stuff the old pillowcase with hay. Tie off with twine and position the pillowcase inside the shirt collar to appear as the "head" of the scarecrow. Secure the pillowcase to the shirt by tying off with twine. With the permanent marker, draw a scarecrow face and place the hat on top.

Make Your Own Pumpkin Family

By painting silly and whimsical faces on pumpkins, you can create an entire pumpkin family that can be proudly displayed on bales of hay on and around your front door.

On paper, sketch your ideas of what kind of face you'd like to put on your pumpkin. Transfer that design to a cleaned and dried pumpkin using a non-permanent marker. Paint the design using craft paints. Seal with a spray glaze or sealer.

If each member of your family (even the little ones) paints their own pumpkin design, you'll have a memorable collection of painted pumpkin decorations for your home.

Spooky Halloween Decorations - They'll Make For One Ghostly Atmosphere

Halloween is one of the happiest times for children. This is something that they will surely remember their whole lives. It is kind of like preparation for the festivities of Christmas. Halloween is so much fun going door to door trick or treating. Going out with friends and collecting as much candy as possible then dividing the collection equally.

Spooky Halloween decorations will surely make this semi-holiday more exciting especially for kids. There are many kinds of spooky Halloween decorations. You need to put some together in order to really make your house stand out from the rest of the neighborhood. Here are some of the most common kinds of spooky Halloween decorations:

Skeletons, Skulls and Bones

These are by far the most common kinds of spooky Halloween decorations. Of course, it is very important for the decoration to be life-like in order to be truly spooky. These decorations can be placed in different areas of the house like in the porch area or on the window.

Skeletons, skulls and bones decorations can be made of many materials like plastic and wood. The paint is very important in order to look realistic and scary. Some skeleton decorations are battery operated for extra spookiness. These are great decorations to scare little kids away.

Ground and Wall Coverings or Nettings

This is a great idea if you have a little more budget. You can make your house or some parts of your house look like an authentic haunted house. Several themes are truly spooky like dungeon, spider webs and many more. This is a good decoration if you are planning to convert your porch or front lawn into something really scary. These decorations combined with others like mummies and skeletons will really give that spooky look.

Scene Setters

These are special props that come in many forms which truly makes your Halloween very memorable. Scene setters are also ideal for Halloween or costume parties. Posters are the most common kind of this specific Halloween decoration. Life size posters of scary characters like Jason from Friday the 13th or Freddy Krueger from Nightmare on Elm Street displayed in some areas of the house will really look scary.

Window silhouettes are also very spooky if used properly. Neighborhood kids will surely be terrified and adults will be intrigued with your decorations. You can also use also spooky stickers for bottles and cans to make your party real freaky.

Witches

Witch decorations are also very popular spooky Halloween decorations. You can hang life-sized witch dolls in different places of your house to set the ambiance for Halloween. Just make sure that you remember you have these decorations when you get up late at night or else you might have a heart attack.

Brooms and witch potions can also be placed in different areas of your house to make it look like an authentic witch home. One of the scariest decorations for Halloween is the realistic witch on a broom which can be suspended in different areas of the house. Halloween Decorations Anyone Can Do

Halloween decorations can be a lot of fun to create on your own without spending a lot of money. Here are a few suggestions:

Turn your home windows into a spooky display by creating silhouettes of haunted houses, skeletons, black cats and more out of black construction paper or dark colored garbage bags. Carefully cut the silhouettes out and tape up to the windows to give an eerie holiday feel to the window. Of course, they look especially spooky after dark with the light from inside shining through. Have fun! Rolls of Danger and Caution Tape can be used to outline porches or door ways. Add an official looking sign printed on a computer (and maybe laminated) that says "This house is guarded by an attack ghost" or something else clever for a few extra laughs.Lighting effects can be made by exchanging regular light bulbs for colored bulbs, blue, orange, yellow, red, or even using black lights can make for mood setting party fun. Replacing your porch light or garage bulb with a black light can be very spooky, especially if you place some small glow in the dark items just within the range of the black light. Take last year's rubber mask (or a scary one from this year) and stick it into a large jar that is full of water. Add a few drops of red food coloring to the water and it looks really gruesome! If the severed head specimen isn't your style, consider a ghost centerpiece. Find a large clean squash (butternut, pumpkin or other funky shape), wash it, dry it good and paint it with white acrylic paint. Then, after the white paint is completely dry, use a black marker to draw the ghostly features on it. Make more than one - like 3 or 5 of different shapes and sizes and display them in a bunch - they look great!

With little effort and minimal cost, your house can be a spooky showcase that all the trick-or-treaters will be anxious to stop by.

Tips on a Few Essential Halloween Decorations For Everyone to Enjoy

People these days are more open to decorating according to the Halloween festival at hand. This has resulted in a lot of interest in items that are specifically suited for any particular festival. This is also true for the festival of Halloween, which is, in reality, one of those festivals that even children enjoy decorating for.

Halloween by nature is supposed to be a scary festival, and hence the motif for decorating your house should be scary instead of bright and happy. Despite the fact that Halloween decorations are a dime a dozen and very innovative, there are still certain essential Halloween decorations without which the look cannot be complete. The following is a list of essential Halloween decorations that must not be missing from the final look.

1. Halloween Pumpkins:

A Halloween is not a Halloween without at least one carved pumpkin. Although one is the minimum, the more you will have the better it will be for the look. Furthermore, you should also try to get genuine pumpkins and carve them yourself because this allows you to have designs that are original to your household. You can hang them, place them on the window sill, locate them in the middle of your dining table, put them in your driveway, etc.

2. Halloween Candles:

Amongst the many essential Halloween decorations candles are very much an intrinsic component of Halloween. The reason for this is that candles have always been the prop of scary things such as ghosts, witches, vampires, ghouls, crypts etc. If you can use only candles to light a room, a driveway or porch then this would give the entire area the Halloween ambiance. The flickering dull glow that candles provide is the eternal companion of the Halloween theme.

3. Halloween Tombstones:

Even with the candles and the pumpkins, there is still something missing from the Halloween setting and this is the morbidity. You can add the morbid aspect by way of using a fake tombstone. Moreover, you can even use multiple tombstones for added effect.

4. Halloween Wreaths:

Wreaths can serve dual purposes for your Halloween ambiance. They will not only add to the total theme but will also use the contrast of wonderful smells to make the whole look more real. Using wreaths is probably the most natural way to add morbidity to any Halloween theme.

5. Skeletons:

Finally, the skeletons cannot be ignored from any Halloween setting. Skeletons will complement everything that you have already placed in your Halloween theme and are an intrinsic part of a Halloween as a pumpkin is. However, if you do not wish to use skeletons then you can also go for witches, ghosts, ghouls etc. These things can be made at home but if you are short on time then you can purchase them from your local stores. There are many innovative versions of the above listed items available in the market with the hi-tech ones garnering most of the attention these days.

The above mentioned items are the essential Halloween decorations, and no Halloween party setting will ever be complete without their presence.

How To Create Your Own Home Halloween Decorations

Whether to decorate your house or your classroom for Halloween, the best choice of decorations are the ones that you make yourself. Home Halloween decorations are fun to make and are really cost efficient in the long run. The camaraderie shared with your friends and family is priceless while you make home Halloween decorations. It is a creative experience that every child will remember doing. In some households it has become a family tradition that has been passed down from generation to generation. With just a few materials you can turn your house or classroom into a gruesome, scary, and fun place to have a party or to invite trick or treaters.

The basics of home Halloween decorations are simplicity. Orange and black construction paper is a must. You also need Elmer's glue, scissors, tape, and crayons or magic markers. The best way to start is to start at the top of the room. You can make a boarder to go around all four walls with a paper chain. Simply cut your orange and black construction paper into strips. Curl the strips into a ring and glue or staple them. They must be interlocked and should alternate in color from black to orange. If you really want to get gruesome you can add some blood red construction paper to the chain. To be more creative you can draw symbols of Halloween on each strip to give it more character and depth.

While still working on the top of the room, think of things that dangle from the ceiling. You can make cut outs of the skull and crossbones, witches, black cats, or ghosts from your construction paper to make some great scary figures. The paper is light enough so if there is even the slightest breeze your figures will move with it in a eerie fashion. To make this home Halloween decoration more creative, you may want to create mobiles with the figures by hanging your cut outs on descending sticks hung by fishing line or twine. If you have extra cutouts paste them on whole sheets of construction paper to give it a colorful back ground.

On your snack table, you can play a joke on your guests by decorating with Halloween food. You could glue all the candy corn together in a huge ball so that when a friend tries to take one, the whole glob of candy corn comes up in his hand. Think of eerie foods that you can serve like gummy worms and marshmallow eyeballs. Your can take the paper plates and draw monsters or scary images on them. Put on a scary movie in the background with the sound off. These can give the room an extra feature of the Halloween spirit. You might want to die your curtains orange or another Halloween color and put candles in the windows. From the outside the candle looks nice but from the inside the candle can cast eerie shadows on the curtain creating a cool special effect. The skies the limit with home Halloween decorations and your imagination and creativity will flourish once you get going.

Creative Halloween Costumes, Decorations and Party Ideas

Halloween is one of my favorite times of year.  Ever since I was a kid I loved dressing up in Halloween costumes and trick-or-treating.  Now that I'm all grown-up I still enjoy the festivities with my kids and having Halloween parties too.

It's fun to decorate the house with spooky ghosts and spider webs and pick out the perfect costumes.  Planning a Halloween party with all the autumn foods brings back lots fun memories too.  The weather starts to get cold and you get to make and eat all those fall favorites like caramel apples and pumpkin bread.

I love to see all the creative Halloween decorations that people put in their yards, on their front porches and in their windows all around the neighborhood.  It seems like it's never too early to get your Halloween decorations up.

It's such a joy to see the little ones all dressed up in their favorite superhero costumes or princesses and monsters.  As an adult it is a fun challenge to see how creative you can be with your costume to impress your friends or win the best costume prize at the Halloween party.   You can find lots of great creative costumes ideas for kids.  They have lots of their favorite tv and movie characters as well as superheros and villains.

Big kids and grown-ups like to get in on the fun too.  You can dress up in creative couples Halloween costumes like Danny and Sandy from Grease or a Gangster and Flapper or Fred and Wilma Flintstone.  There are lots of fun combinations.

The kids love trick-or-treating and of course all that candy.  Now all that sugar might not be the best choice for kids so you may want to try some creative alternatives.  You can give out healthier snacks like individual serving size bags of goldfish crackers or pretzels.  Small toy treats are also a fun choice.  You can purchase those rubber band bracelets that come in all sorts of shapes and colors and give those out as well.

You also want to make sure that you think about safety.  Halloween can be lots of fun but you want to make sure that everyone stays safe and comfortable.  Having costumes that are warm enough and make it easy for motorist to see you is important for trick-or-treating on a cold dark night.  Carrying a flash light or glow stick or a glow in the dark candy bucket are some good ideas too.
