Cheap Halloween Props - Your Kids Can Make Good, Scary Fun!

Halloween is so much more fun for trick or treaters when your house looks enticingly scary as the kids approach. These days, even one pumpkin can run you a few bucks, so if you're like me, you're looking for a few ideas for cheap Halloween props that are still scary enough to give the kids a thrill. Here are just a few ideas for creepy, but cheap Halloween props the kids can make and/or decorate themselves. You save money and they have fun.

Poster board and cardboard boxes are on my short list of cheap Halloween decorating materials. A large cardboard box can be turned into a haunted house in an afternoon. Hung from a window, your haunted house will lend a creepy feeling and inspire a little apprehension for the candy seekers. Depending on the kids ages, you may need to help cut out some 'windows' with a utility knife. After that's done, let the kids loose. All you need in the way of supplies is a tube of gray acrylic paint, yellow or orange cellophane, a pack of markers in day-glow colors, a package of 'spiderwebs' and some glitter. Cut your cardboard box to a size that fits in a front window. After the kids have painted the house, allow about 15 minutes for drying (acrylic paint dries quickly). Turn the cardboard (or poster board) over and then they can tape the cellophane to the back of the windows. Now they can use their markers to draw in the creepy details. Kids generally know what scares kids, so let them have free rein. Apply spiderwebs! When the haunted house is finished, hang it on the inside of the designated window. The cellophane will be backlit by the lights inside. Voila! Incidentally, this Halloween prop can be used again next year!

Halloween light strings are another of the reusable and cheap Halloween props. While a creepy entryway is part of the Halloween fun, you want to balance off the decorations with a bit of cuteness for the very young trick or treaters. You can light the front of your house for just a few bucks and the kids can have fun doing this task as well.

You might want to get a quantity of those fake spiderwebs. Attach them to places kids might touch, like the doorbell and porch or stair rails. Little plastic creepy crawlers should be in abundance, tucked into the spiderwebs. No glue needed. You might even offer a creepie as a 'party favor'. As the kids are leaving with their treats, give them an added scare. "You're welcome to take a little spider or worm home if you'd like to take one from the spiderweb patch..."

Instead of spending a lot of money on a couple of big pumpkins, pick up some of those tiny pumpkins at the supermarket. Get a few small packages of glass 'jewels' and let the kids create Jack o' Lantern eyes and mouths. Group them together on a table at the doorway, or spread them along the windowsills. These cheap Halloween props can also double as Halloween 'party favors'.

Every drugstore's Halloween section is flush with the printed-on-cardboard skeletons, witches and vampires. Let the kids put a little spark on these cheap Halloween props, gluing on fake jewels for eyes, some glittery red blood streaks and some accent creepiness with the day-glow markers. Hang these guys from a tree branch, porch rail, or anywhere they'll catch a breeze and flutter wickedly.

Making these cheap Halloween props heightens the fun of this single, annual scare fest. Better yet, most are reusable. Next year, the kids can add to their collection.

Cheap Ways to Make Halloween Costumes - Best Kiddies Funny Ghoul Jokes, Party Ideas & Games

Halloween - It only seems like yesterday cowering behind closed doors fearing little monsters, which would come armed with tricks up their sleeve, more than that of the year before. Would my treat be good enough to keep me safe, I thought? With bated breath I would apprehensively open the door. The pleasure I got from giving was so rewarding, once the masks were removed to reveal ear to ear grinning kids, who believed at the time, had scared me witless

Witches, pumpkin lanterns and jolly kids, who, in cold damp weather conditions, dress up wearing a mischievous grin under a ghoulish mask, are just some things we associate with Halloween (October 31st.) I am not sure of the popularity of this event around the globe, but in the UK it is pretty big Halloween - a time when kids love dressing in eerie costumes, and a happy time for parents who do the dressing.

What is trick or treat, simply explained, it involves children dressing in their favorite Halloween costume and approaching neighbors for their goody bag to be filled with treats. If a child is denied a treat then beware because a trick is then played. Tricks can include throwing flour/eggs through the letter box. Depending on how devilish the imp (child) tricks can be more serious. Do yourself a favor and give generously. Children at one were safe to go out alone; however, you must discourage kids from wanting to do this. Insist that an adult accompanies them on their rounds.

Want this Halloween night to be extra special but money is an issue, worry not because there are ways to help you have a fun Halloween night without costing the earth.

A fabulous money saving option is to share expense. Ask neighbors or family if they are up for sharing costs. Don`t be afraid to ask, as there is possibility they too are in the same boat, and think this a good idea. If your neighbor has a bigger garden than you, then you save money if they provide space for tent or marquis depending how big the event. And in return, if you`re handy with a needle and cotton, then you supply the Halloween costumes. Two heads are better than one, so ideas will come fast and furious on how to save cash.

Halloween Costume Ideas

Nothing beats making your own outfit as a money saving alternative regardless of whatever the occasion. Avoid temptation to hire a ghoul costume as it is expensive; also it has to be returned. A handmade Halloween costume can be stored away and used the following year. Jumble/car boot sales are worth a visit for picking up bits and bobs cheaply. Let us assume that the needle cotton option is not your forte, if so consider working with face paints, newspapers and black bin bag liners.

If you want a spooky Halloween mask then make one with paper Mache. Involve the kids, it makes decorating more exciting and the mask more personalized. Remember there is no right or wrong way. To create the shape of your Halloween mask use a balloon, this saves on buying fancy craft store products. "Warning" some children may not excite over Halloween like other kids do and may fear different things. If so, dress them down so they can still enjoy the fun without their little heart pounding ten to the dozen.

Make a Mask Items.

1 You will need a Balloon, Newspaper, and Wallpaper Glue/Paste, some Acrylic Paint, Pinafore and scissors.

2 Protect the work space with newspaper or old cloth. Blow balloon up to preferred size. Cut newspaper into strips then dip in glue and layer round the balloon several times. Smooth out wrinkles as you go along. The more layers - the more solid the mask. Finally add features specific to the mask you are making. Allow cast to dry for 24 hours. Once Mache has set cut into the mask popping the balloon. Cut the back of the mask out, and secure a piece of elastic around the back for keeping the mask in place.

Paint mask in preferred color. This is where imagination comes in so you can identify the mask in the way you see fitting as a scary Halloween mask using paint.

Halloween Costume Ideas

3 Costumes do not come cheaper than making one with a bin liner. Bin bags make shiny capes. All you do is cut a hole for the arms and head to go through. Red liners use for creating a devil, and black for witches, Dracula or Batman. Also good for keeping the kiddies dry if raining when out trick or treating.

4 Spooks don`t come spookier than a Halloween ghost. Take a white sheet, cut out eyeholes, and you`re done (how quick.) Keep the sheet a safe length to prevent tripping. Sheet cuttings make favorable treat bags with draw string opening. Using a permanent marker, you can draw spiders, bats etc on the sheet. A Halloween skeleton has you wear a black leotard and your face painted black. Use white paint to draw bones on for skeletal effect. Have a book to hand with graphic pictures for you to copy from.

Halloween Games and Party Ideas

1 The filling of a sweet jar with colored jelly beans is a fun game. Ask guests to guess how many beans inside. Other confectionery connected with Halloween i.e. jelly snakes frogs and toads are ideal. Place sweet jar near the door and hand each guest a blank piece of paper to put their name and answer on.

2 Halloween Generation Game: Place items such as different type sweets, fruit, mini pumpkin, etc. on a tray. Allow guests to view for a minute, and then have them recap on what they remember. Winner is the one who remembers the most

3 Halloween Words: Of course word choice will differ for age groups playing this game.

Hand each person or child a sheet of paper printed out with a Halloween word such as haunted, trick or treat, pumpkin, skeleton or apple dunking on. Save printer wear/ tear and ink, and hand write. Ask participants to make as many words as they can out of the words.

4 Who Has The Pumpkin - Ask guests to form a circle. Start a song, the more suitable for the occasion the better i.e. Monster Mash. Give mini pumpkin to someone who then passes it on to the next person, and so on until music stops. The person left holding the pumpkin leaves the circle. The last left with pumpkin is the winner and gets to keep it.

5 Halloween Hunt - Hide bags of spider jellies, toffee skeletons or candy. Set kids loose letting them run riot while trying to find the hidden yummies. Have children supervised for particular Halloween games. Be sure to keep back some sweets as someone has to lose.

For the Halloween environment buy black construction paper and cut out silhouettes of bats and decorate accordingly - hang them at different heights with thread from the ceiling. Pipe cleaners are great for making creepy crawlies (spiders.) Pumpkins hollowed out and carved with evil faces with a lit candle inside is traditional and they make great Halloween room features. Watch children at all times where there is a naked flame. Happy Haunting and keep safe this Halloween night.

Cheap Halloween Party Ideas For Kids, Adults, and Teenagers

Have Halloween At Home

Lots of us would like to keep our family and friends close to home on Halloween. We all love the traditions of this holiday, and probably have great memories about it, but these days it seems better to keep our kids and teens off the street. I have had a great time throwing Halloween parties for children, adults, and teenagers. Everybody remembered the fun for a long time, and built new memories they could pass on.

Set The Mood - When your guests arrive, make sure they are immersed in the holiday spirit (lol) right away. Dim lights and use candles or powered lanterns for mood lighting. Having to pass through a decorative spider web to enter will be lots of fun too.

Halloween Movies - A rented movie can help almost any party. You can keep it on the tv, but make sure the sound is low enough so other partiers can chat. Choose your movie to fit your guests. You can find some great cartoons for young children and zombie movies for teens. Even we older people enjoy doing the Time Warp Again too! Rocky Horror is great for young adults, or for adults who were young once!

The Haunted Relics - You can make a small haunted house in a hallway or bedroom. A dark room, some spooky sounds, and scary pictures lit by black light ca make this fun for everybody. Appoint a guide to lead the victims (guests).

The Scary Contests - Be sure and judge costumes. You can provide small prizes like bags of candy or themed cups. For younger kids, I would make enough categories so everybody can win, but adults and teens should be able to compete for a couple of prizes. You probably know that children love prize bags, but teens and adults seem to like them too.

Ghoulish Games - The easiest game for almost any party can be adapted to yours. Buy a pack of sticky notes and write the name of some creature on each one. You could use The Great Pumpkin, The Mummy, and Harry Potter for example. Each guest gets one paper stuck on their back until they can gather enough hints to guess it correctly. This makes a great icebreaker, and it is really cheap to do!

Frugal Halloween Party Planning - You can throw an affordable party without making it seem cheap at all.

You can find some great decorations, costume ideas, and slimy stuff for a haunted house in the dollar or discount store.

Do not be afraid to allow your guests to contribute, especially if they ask. You can delegate sodas, snacks, or bags of candy for prizes to any guests who seem willing to contribute. In fact, you can even make another contest out of this! Your friends will probably be happy to compete for the Best Halloween Treat competition. Be sure to award that one early before the food is all gone.

I think that Halloween is so popular because it celebrates our imagination, and you can certainly use yours to throw an inexpensive party that your guests will love.

Cheap Halloween Decorating Ideas

Halloween is the beginning of the first of 3 autumn through winter holidays. Halloween was originally celebrated as a day to honor the dead, held at the end of the Celtic year. The original name, Samhain, is now used to describe the autumnal equinox and harvest time in general. Many have forgotten the origins of Halloween and enjoy it entirely for the costumes and candy.

Over the years, Halloween decorating has become second only to Christmas. There are many cheap and fun ways to dress up the house that reflect the origins of the holiday and won't empty the pocketbook. The everlasting cheap pumpkin provides endless possibilities.

Pumpkins can be carved, painted or left plain and set about the house and yard. Kids love to carve their own pumpkins. The pumpkins could be complimented with smaller cheap gourds and dried Indian corn. A harvest display of dried corn stalks is a perfect backdrop for a Halloween display and with a few adjustments can work well all the way into Thanksgiving. These are great cheap lawn displays. If carefully stored, the corn, gourds and corn stalks can be saved and used again the next year.

One of the best ways to cheaply decorate a family home for Halloween is to enlist the creativity of children. A great, kid-friendly Halloween decorating idea is the old construction paper stand-by. Cut out silhouettes of witches, ghosts and bats from construction paper for a mobile or window decoration. Paper lunch sacks can be given faces, stuffed with straw and used as the head of a scarecrow. Cut scarecrow bodies out of cheap grocery store bags or other heavy paper. Clothing can be cut out of pre-colored paper and glued to the body. Scarecrows don't have to be scary to get into the spirit of Halloween.

Not many events can compare with the fun of a Halloween party, except perhaps the decorating. Cheap Black crepe streamers add an air of spookiness to any room. There are many styles of cheap fake cobwebs available that can be hung from chandeliers and across windows or even in trees outside. Spiders can be set on the cobwebs for added effect. Homemade headstones can be cheaply made and hung on walls and kids and parents can have fun writing creative epitaphs. Witches' hats are easy to make from construction paper.

Truly, the only limit to Halloween decorating is your imagination.
