Halloween is around the corner and there is plenty to do, from shopping for the best party themes, to getting the fabulous trick or treats ordered and many more. But how many of us are willing to work hard to get the best costumes designed for ourselves? And am not talking about a DKNY or the likes, although brands make a head turn, but simplicity makes a head spin. So here we are with this article on some goofy ideas right from the comfort of your homes to get ideas into your heads and material in your hands to start away right now. For this Halloween should be an experience, not only for fun, but for an enterprising time where who knows you may make a lot of money as well, starting off with a boutique for costumes next year on.

We always loved the legendary stand up Ghost, all in white, with just two eyes and the scary tone. Now is the chance you could be one. if you have an old sheet in white and could cut two holes in it for eyes, then the costume is ready for you this Halloween. Make sure the length is perfect or else the Ghost in you would go tripping and tumbling rather than scaring the lights out of people.

If that is an idea you think is too simple, then get the Scary Clown costume made for yourself this time around. Check in your closet for large clothes, get them decorated using paints and markers or even glitter paper and ribbons, add on a wig of any funky color and since your costume is made from extra large clothes, get the extra space stuffed with old newspapers or tissue, make sure you relieve your nature calls before you don the costume or else it could be a mess while the jobs being done.

Another idea that you would like would be the famous Scarecrow. If you have a flannel shirt that is oversized and a pair of jeans which are faded, you then have for yourself a costume in the making. Add on a thick rope as a belt, also make sure the shirt and the jeans are well stuffed with plastic bags, straw and paper and let it dangle out of the clothes, don't forget the right make up touches which would give you the scary look.

Other funky yet fashionable ideas would be the pairing of Hawaiian shirts with large straw hats for men and loud bright polka or flower print clothes for women with straw bags. As accessories for the attire, straw bags, hanging neck maps and a camera would do, most importantly the look of being lost and spaced out in the world is a must to add to the effect. Don't forget to stock you tourist bags or straw bags with goodies and treats for the young ones around.

Throw a Woodstock Halloween Costume Party

To continue honoring the 40th anniversary of the famous rock fest, throw a Woodstock Halloween costume party. The possibilities for creative ideas using this theme are endless.

First and foremost you would definitely need a prize for the best costume. The outfits from Woodstock were colorful and varied. Vests, fringe, striped pants, long skirts, flowing blouses and sandals were the look. Just putting an outfit together would be a hoot. You could go as one of the featured performers (i.e. Jimi Hendrix), a flower child, a war protester or simply a hazy hippie. Perhaps you could get some friends to join you and go as a complete band such as The Who or The Grateful Dead. Just remember, there was lots and lots of hair, headbands, beads, weird glasses and peace signs on the scene.

The main feature of your party would, of course, have to be the music. Continuous songs by Janis Joplin, Joan Baez, Joe Cocker and numerous others should be playing in the background. You could even have a "Name that Tune" contest with music from the three days of peace, love and music or play a "Where Are They Now" trivia game. Surely someone would know whatever happened to Sly and the Family Stone band!

Anything you need to decorate for your party could be found at your nearest Dollar Store. Remember, the more psychedelic the better. Rainbows of crepe paper and plastic flowers should be perfect. Beads draped over lampshades and hanging from doorways. Move anything retro you have front and center and throw a few tie dyed pieces around.

A dress up costume party is not only unique, but adds a lot of flair to an otherwise plain, same old - same old, get together. It separates the true spirited people from the mundane.

You have an endless list of themes that could be used for your dress up costume party. First, most people think of what holidays may be approaching when they choose a theme. Halloween is one great example. Everyone loves Halloween dress up costume parties. I know people that start decorating for Halloween in September. They start removing their usual decorations like candles, flower arrangements and vases and bring out the skulls, the cauldrons, the dry ice for the cauldrons, the cob webs, the witches candles, the scary sounds DVDs and transform their home into Halloweenland. I am not kidding!

Christmas is another. You could have a house full of Mr. and Mrs. Santas and their elves. Don't forget and leave out the reindeer. They like a party too.

But what other themes can you use for a dress up costume party?

A scavenger hunt is a great party idea. But add a twist. Make it a rule that everyone has to wear a dress up costume, like pajamas, for instance! If any of you guys have been wanting to dress up like Hugh Hefner, here's your chance. Also, does anyone know where to get bunny slippers in adult sizes? You will have to give everyone a little more time to complete their list since they will have to explain to a lot of people why they are out in their pajamas trying to find crazy items on their list. Always make sure each team has a designated driver. No exceptions. You will not be allotted enough time to explain to the nice officer why you have five people in your vehicle dressed in pajamas.

I attended an "Andy of Mayberry" party once. Everyone got to choose which character from the show they would dress as. The host rented an antique squad car and parked it on the front lawn. Every room had a tv with different episodes of the show playing on them. They had used the shows cookbook for the food. Can you tell that I am from the South? The Andy Griffith show is held in very high esteem here.

A "Mash 4077th" party should appeal to the baby boomers in the crowd. Many choices of dress up costume ideas here. Some of you guys could have an interesting evening should you choose a "Klinger" costume. You'll be guaranteed to be the hit of the party.

Your guest will need to have enough time to assemble their costumes. They may have to order them online or find a local store that carries what they need to complete their "look". There are many creative ways to pull together a dress up costume. My costume for the "Andy of Mayberry" party came from the local thrift shop. A great place to find vintage clothing. The Army Navy store was perfect for the "Mash 4077th" event. Camo to go!

You will also need enough time to get your decorations and props assembled also. It doesn't have to be expensive, just be creative and it'll be a hit.

Host an Adult Halloween Costume Party

Halloween is not just for kids. Adults love to celebrate the holiday and dress up in costume too. Here are some ideas for hosting an Adult Halloween Costume Party. 

You can make your own invitations to set the Halloween party mood. At your local craft store get some pre-cut blank cards in a Halloween color and then head to the stamp row. Find a stamp that has a spider web, pumpkins, witches hat or other Halloween symbol. Don't forget to get an ink pad and a marker too. Decorate the front of the card with the stamp and ink pad. Write down the party details on the inside with the marker. Make sure you write down that it is a costume party. 

When decorating for the costume party you need to decide if you are going for spooky or classy. If blood and gore is your goal then pile on the scary décor. Have a scary noise DVD playing to help set the mood. Hang spider webs and plastic spiders all over. Perhaps you had a classy party in mind. Then go with a candle filled room with cauldrons filled with dry ice and water to create a smoky ambiance. For either of these parties pumpkins, gourds, and fall leaves always have a place. 

Your menu can be inspired by the season. Serve a pumpkin soup, salad, and pork tenderloin stuffed with apples. Pumpkin pie topped with whipped cream is always a hit for dessert.
